My Rubbermaid Variant

So Im nearly finished with construction, its now a nice storage bin and seed starter, but not lightproof.. since I dont need light yet. Seedlings are 2 Paradise seeds Ice Cream (fem) and one white berry fem also from paradise. the WB cracked in a day so i put the rockwool cube into some soil and watered with a tiny bit of clonex. now i wait, im gonna get add a 26 watt bulb for veg, ill probly veg for one to two weeks depending on the comparative and real growth for the ic and wb, since ic is more sativa. It also takes longer to finish. (60 days vs 45-50)

So i found a black and decker electric hand saw lying around so i sawed out the bottom and lid on the ubermaids. makes it more stealth, as i just have them stacked ont op of each other in the very back room in my basement, totally inconspicuous.

this is the ac adaptor i hooked up the fan to.

thats the connections, secured with electrical tape. yelow isnt needed, its the speed for fan control.

this is the fan view from the back with the lights on. i need to put a filter, but ill get ducting and but a diy carbon scrubber here. no light leaks no worries, lights arent on yet.

thats the 120mm i bought with the fan with a 140-120mm reducer. it just sticks out the back, should faciliate easy attachment to ducting.

well tahts it for now. ill post once it gets really veggin and i decide to get more lights. once i flower im gonna run 5-6 42 watters.

Looks good.

Smart on the much less suspicous placement of two tupperware bins stacked normally!

definitely less suspiscisuos, at first i saw people goin upside down and wondered why noone stacked one on top of the other... then i saw someone do it ( i think it was missesmontreal, i dont remember) and i started building since i knew it could be done.

for now im just using the miracle gro organic choice from home depot. ill probably add some perlite to it i think i have some in the garage somewhere. really i am just using miracle gro cuz i can bike to home depot from my house and put it in my backpack and ride back. but once i get a place to ship things to, or find transporation to a hydro store, ill get fox farm ocean forest and some good nutes. i have the schultz 10-15-10 plant food for now too.

what method does anyone else who uses rubber maids use for securing the light strips to the top lid? i already had two bulbs fall out and break, but i thikn thats because the 42 watt cfls are just too heavy for the y sockets. instead im going to put one straight in the plug sockets and just have 2 on one power strip, i can have 3 power strips on the lid for a total of 6 42 watt bulbs. only problem is i need a better way of mounting the powerstrips. this isnt exactly 100% safe right now

Pulling up a chair. I'm currently looking at White Berry and Ice Cream as well to be grown in a similar small set up.

As for securing the light strip, of the one's I've seen people are using screws, kind of takes away for the "stealth" aspect if you as me. I would scuff the underside of the lid and epoxy very lightweight chain so I could adjust the height of the fixture. Don't use cheap epoxy.
If Epoxy does seem like something you can trust to support the weight, dill a small hole under the top lip on 2 sides and and put a dowel rod thought it and seal it with black silicone. Just a couple of my ideas to keep it "stealth"

i was thinking about epoxy. would it be strong enough to hold rubber onto a small block of wood?

because that way i can screw in screws on the wood blocks (2 per block) for the power strips and lock the strip in on the screws beacuse i can buy the power strips with the screw mounting holes in them. thats basically how i mounted the first one except i tried to screw it in from the other side of the block from the outside of the top of the bin. (hard to describe, and too dark in any case to take a picture of)

anyways, the problem with the weight of the 42 watters was due really because of thhe plug pulling out of the power strip with two bulbs weight on one plug, via the y socket. epoxy should be fine with the wood. plus itll be only two bulbs per wood plank.

I'm going to use zip ties, they use them in wiring of cars and stuff like that.
I'm sure you find they long enough to work.

That's a really cool setup you got there. It's definitely a lot less suspicious than an upside down rubbermaid container.

I also tried the y sockets with the big 42 watters on a power strip.. mine also didn't want to stay plugged in! So I resorted to getting 4 of those porcelain lamp bases and wired those up to extension cords. Screwed those bases onto a small plank of wood and now have it hanging, with y sockets in those. It was the easiest solution for me. I have my power strip velcro'd to the top of my cab just for my cord plugins.. that industrial strength velcro works really good and hasn't budged a bit.

Good stuff.. can't wait to see the plants!

Hey donutsandwich - Nice setup you got there. I'm currently growing White Berry. I'm at day 35 of 12/12. I haven't sampled too much, so can't do a smoke report, but I can say they are pretty trouble-free--so far anyway. Here are a couple pics fyi.

Good luck friend!
