why is a slice of ham "blowing up" in the microwave??????????

i never trust pork but i made myself a ham, mayo and doritos sandwich.. i put the ham in the microwave for 40 seconds and around the edges, litterly went off like mini bombs.. the border of my meat is very roughed up as well as holes blown in the middle

of course i'm half way through it now and it's delicious.. does sandwich ham normally do this?

Some things go crazy in the microwave, i've put weed in there before and it's started to jump around and create sparks, i'm sure there wasn't any metal in it, probably just hadn't been flushed and was reacting to the elements.

it's probably best not to think how ham is made. i'm not saying it is metal that is causing the eruptions but that's usually the case. there could just be air pockets in the ham, lots of food explodes, such as vegetables. just the pressure build up probably. try placing it on a grilled plate so it's all exposed and not slapped onto a flat surface.

Microwave ovens operate by exciting water molecules present in your food to 212 degrees F (boiling point). At this point the water is so excited it transforms into vapor.

If you stacked more than one piece of ham on top of another and put it in a microwave, the popping you hear is simply the boiling vapor forcing itself loose from between two slices of lunch meat.

It does the same thing with turkey...

Funniest thing ever, my eight grade science teacher told te about this. IF YOU HAVE A GRAPE, TRY THIS. Cut it in half but not all the way. Start the cut through where the stem connected to the grape and cut the flesh but leave the last bit of skin so you can set the two halves of the grape flat while they are still connected by a flap of skin. Open the grape and place both cut halves flat on a plate, leaving the skkin connected. Put in microwave for 1 minute and watch it, don't look away. FUNNIEST THING EVER! ha try it It won't hurt anything.

I don't feel like trying this, what happens? - do they look like exploding testicles or something?
