He also say that purple color is due to "anthocyanine" pigment accumulation..and the yellow/orange/red/brown colors are the result of "carotenoids" pigment accumulation. From my little experience with Dutch purple's..they are often purple/brown..not an electric purple like the Urkle or similar purple plants..i smoked Purple#1 and PurpleStar years ago in the Dam and it was weak weak weak..no real taste..spicy and not pleasant to smoke. I'm wondering if the 'anthocyanine' and 'carotenoids' give differents taste to the buds..does these two pigments can be produced by one plant (i suppose but..) ?? The Urkle nugz i smoked early this year were total candy purple smoke..very pleasant and different from i haved tried at the moment. Also terpenes are big when it comes to taste..so maybe the association of certains pigments with the good terpenes make for purple but delicious smokes...? don't get me wrong i dont do any affirmation..i'm in full supposition lol peace

Hiya skar, thanks for expanding on my little theory, now where's Sam the Skunkman when ya need him, I bet he could answer this question!
The only article I've seen about purple colour was by Subcool and I don't listen to that guy, especially after his claim that all the west coast purples were the same. If I ever go to hell, I bet the devil puts me in a padded cell with Rezdog, Arjan and Subcool for all eternity! lol But joking aside, I don't think the pigmentation of the purple Afghan is the same as that I've seen in plants that turn purple due to temperature. Plants that turn purple through cold temps have a deep, dark purple colour, soemtimes it looks almost black, but the purple Afghan was a lighter, brighter shade altogether, in places it was bright magenta and I reckon this is a totally different form of colouration to the low temp purple. You can see what I mean by bright magenta type of purple in these pics of the green/pink pheno: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You can see the magenta colouring in these cured purple pheno buds too: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's hard to get accurate colour rendition on a photograph, but the PA buds had a definite 'what the fuck is THAT!' factor when you saw them in the flesh, even people who had seen plenty of purple buds before were surprised by the colour of these buds as they are purple in a different way and the color tone is qite different to your usual purple buds. I'd love to know what's going on inside the PA to make it so colourful, and why it has evolved that way, the leaves stay green, and it's always the leaves that first turn purple in reaction to cold temperatures, so I wonder what would happen if I were to deliberately drop the lights out temps during a run of PA clones, would the leaves turn dark purple in response to the cold, but the buds remain a brighter, lighter purple? If so, that would kinds of prove that there are two different purple pigments at work here. I will have to try this experiment over winter, it gets down to 10 celsius in my grow in winter if I don't heat it, which is why this Sour Diesel IBL turned purple: ![]() ![]() Compare the dark purple of this SD IBL bud with the bright pink of the green/pink pheno PA, they look like totally different pigments to me: SD IBL: ![]() PA:

Clark is the man......well done Skar.....
Ive had and still get colors galore on most..most go pale yellow in the end durring summer and even mild temp difference can bring out deeper colors.. Look at it like a color spectrum..What is Green and Yellow make? Blue but Blue can also have its own spectrums...If you penetrate light thru it you'll learn..its purple when its certain colors of yellow n green..(when yellow is more Red..you get Purple) ..When you have a plant that goes purp in the foliage its saying a few things but its variety and enviro dependent..If the calyx meat is purp thats another story and is prob genetic IMEO.. My SD IBL was just starting to purple this year but had to bring it down in mid oct. due to mold issues. Would love to have run her longer. 10% amber only. The way mold can run- better to cut early than to lose her trying to be a hero.

I've still got a few Pics of that gear you grew, from back when We First met... in 03, If memory serves Me correctly..
Folks, Capt. turned Me on for the first time, some true grade A+ Medicinal gear, that wasn't scuffed/kiefed before it got too the patient.. This, or these, Pics are from when Overgrow was still around... Before he started Kryptonite Seeds.. Just a few things back from 03 I think, of some things that He had going back then... Up first was My first taste of Blueberry.... Here was one of His First crosses, (one of Many), that He was working on @ the time... Correct Me if I'm wrong there Capt.. Here's what was know as "Blue~Berry Crusher".... Sorry for the "out of Focus Pics" they came from a cheapie Camera from back in the Day... Here is one, It, well, I forgot to Lable completly what is was but it's Lemon~A3 or something or another..... I think I got some Shots of some Super~Silver~Haze, Capt. was messin with back then... Folks, now that stuff there, was some dern TASTY Meds, that you just wanted to smoke all day long, just for the taste.... Smoke wanted to Make you "get-up-and-GO!"..... Anyways, Capt. If'in you didn't mind.. theres a few Pics from the Past... ![]() Peace and Light LD |

so has anyone decided to self these elite clones like urkle an purple kush so that some of use in the uk can give them a grow to see wot all the hype is about, ive been trying to get hold of one of these for a couple years now with no joy as posting clones isnt exactly an option but one can post seeds just nobodies created any yet.(not that i know of anyway)

HOT PURPLE KUSH
this was from a cut obtained from sr-71 grown indoors in the summer without AC(80+) and it still turned pretty purple in color...on another note, a jack the ripper from my climate controlled garden has started to turn purple and pink, i'll post harvest pics after the flush
