Small, healthy Hawaiian Snow
I just thought I'd put up a pic of my nicest, un-topped Hawaiian Snow plant. My main concern growing a plant like this indoors was 'would it reach maturity while staying short'?. So far, the answer is YES! I flowered her at just under a foot tall, and now I am seeing plenty of asymetrical branching (a sign of maturity) and you can see from the comparisson to my hand, the leaves are quite large and VERY dark green. The H.S. I topped got pretty wispy looking, but maybe the branches will thicken as time goes on. Unless I'm in a Greenhouse or outside I probably won't bother topping my sativa-based strains.
Hawaiian Snow compared to a C99xGrapefruit started at the same time. Next is just the Hawaiian Snow. |

The branches of the topped plants have indeed thickened. Three of them were tied so the branches were more upright, and one was allowed to grow at a more horizontal direction, allowing more light into the center. Both forms are showing new growth all along the stem. I think these will fill out into bud-sites, as the buds have started to form at the tips.

Hi Ariesxx, the plants look great, are they alone or do they have friends? Curious how
much height you have to work with, if they're just forming buds they prob have a way to go. How long have they been flowering? What kind of lighting? Inquiring minds want to know. NuggetShiner - aka curious george

. I started 100 seedlings, but poor gene selection has brought me down to what will be 25-30 females. I started with 12 varieties, and it was just too many to work with, next time is 3 strains max. I have about 8 ft. of height in my room, and plenty of floor space. My problem isn't space, it's trying to run too many lights and blowing the circuit breaker! Right now I'm limited to a digital 600 next to a 1kW mag-core. Both HPS, both are about 2 ft from the tops of the plants. They've been flowering since 9/12, so just over two weeks now? I know what you mean about the height of the plants, as I was worried about this too, but I'm pretty sure they've done most of their initial stretch from the light change. They'll continue to grow, but I don't think they'll keep shooting for the sky. I think topping 4/5 will also keep those 4 especially short and bushy, but even the untopped one isn't too tall.

Here's my un-topped Hawaiian Snow. The picture really doesn't do it justice. This is my heaviest plant so far, even though it's not the biggest. I have it sitting right under my 1k HPS light. There are other plants all around it, but its got the prime spot right now. If I grew these again, I would NOT top them. I didn't want to this time, but I thought I could clone the tops, but they died (along with all the other clones lol). The topped plants keep growing tall, and throwing out little branches, but the bud-sites are small and wispy so far. The topped plants will easily take 80 days. The smell is fantastic, very strong like a sweet onion and some kind of Thai spice or something, but mostly onion.

Just thought I'd throw this up here. I've been using my camera phone to take pictures this whole time, so I dug out my old digital camera and got it going. Here's my first pic, you can zoom in for lots of detail
I know, it's orange, deal with it The smell is unreal, sharp but still deep and heady at the same time. The pistils are exagerated, thick, wooly things. I think when the buds cure they're going to look like big fur-balls. I'll take some more pictures outside when the weather clears up

Aries, it looks great, but it's ORANGE, lmao. I like your attitude
Unrequested suggestion, lol, in the camera menu I set my white balance to outdoor, adjust flash to "always" and set exposure to -1.0, I get improved pics. Leave everything the same and try "indoor" white balance also. I was amazed. If they look dark move your exposure up.I was curious how tall they are now? They look great. Damn you, your making be want some of these seeds. They must be into their 5th week? How tall did the untopped HS get?

-1 untopped. It's about 2.5 feet tall right now in wk 5 of flowering, but it's got literally 5 times the buds of any other plant, and waaaay more resin and smell. This will probably go 11 weeks and looks to be the finest pot I've ever grown ![]() -2 topped plants that are as tall as I am, literally. With the 3 gal. grow-bags they're in, they are 5ft 9 tall. They are covered with buds, with one being denser and one being more slender. These will easily flower into 100 days if I let them go their full term. I would also expect about 3 oz. or so from a plant that size, but I'm not sure if I have the patience. -2 topped plants that very sativa, but under control at just over 3 ft tall. The buds on these are the very definition of the 'long, running sativa bud'. The buds are tight against the stem and internodal spacing is short. The main colas are about 22 inches long right now, and as big around as a cigarette lighter. The two main side brances are each the same girth and about 16 inches long. These will probably get picked at day 70. The harvest times are just projections, I've never worked with an extreme Sativa like this before. The two that are super tall are really just a novelty at this point. The one untopped Uber-plant will yield so heavily I'll be happy no matter what the other 4 do. I'll snap some pictures of the H.S. tomorrow, weather permitting. I would say that without a doubt the best way to go with these is to veg until 6-8 inches tall and then flower, and not to top. In a small grow, you could grow literally one of these topped plants per 600 watt light and it would fill in the space of four Indicas. Last edited by AriesXX; 10-18-2007 at 03:51 AM.. |

Hi AriesXX, I don't really post frivolously, just stuff I'm interested in.
When u find the cam settings u like don't forget to write them down unless u have a good memory. Good short term memory and this hobby don't seem to go together. Quote:
They all sound great, been meaning to look at your gallery but I find that since I started posting not much time left to peruse the boards. This is a bit more time consuming than I anticipated. Keep up the good work, I'll be check'in. NS

Well, I harvested the upper-half of my Hawaiian Snow Uber-plant. Before I did though, I thought I'd take a picture. This is strictly for the bennefit of the users here and my own pride
In light of recent posts from G.H. I didn't even want to put this up, as they don't deserve the free advertising, but ah well. I left the bottom half to finish out because there were still a lot of fresh pistils. The first half was finished at day 50!!! The leaves were Sativa, but the growth structure was an Indica leaning hybrid. This one was much different from my other tall, lanky girls with thin, running buds. The top cola of this dried out to about the size and shape of a Red Bull can. The other 8 branches below that I left on to develop have big round buds at the tops of the stems about the size of a tangerine, with smaller pop-corn buds below. I'll let them go to about day 60-65. The other Hawaiian Snow girls I have will continue on to day 70-75 most likely. The pistils are a deep, brick red color, on a dark green bud. The bud structure on this one was like really thick, fat fox-tails. I've had fox-tails before, but these are tight and thick, like ft's on steroids or something . Like I said, I'd post more pics, but I really don't feel like it. The smell is totally unique, not sweet onion on this one anymore, just straight onion with some sort of Curry smell mixed in. Pleasent, kind of spicy. I'm going to let her dry for awhile before I write a smoke report. HS is a nice plant, but unless you grew out a lot to find this pheno and clone it, it would only be good to grow for personal smoke. |
