Stable, true-breeding strains

I've never seen a list of these. Does one exist?

no, there really isn't a "list" per say, but i did find this old thread on og about it..... https://www.overgrow.com/edge/showthr...threadid=42131

from chimera's post.....

"Skunk #1
California Orange
Afghani #1
Hindu Kush
South African Durban Posion (Durban)
Early girl
Northern Lights
Big Bud
Blueberry
Mighty Mite "

no doubt there are many many other's, i can think of a few more. and i'm sure others can chime in and add. but really, there are many ibls that are unnamed or just unknowm to the general populous, along with the fact that you would have a very tough time finding the originals to most of the strains listed above. if you could find them at all (ie northern lights and big bud).

Good Luck with this one. There are a bunch of true breeding strains. Many are recognized, and many are not I am sure. It would take much travel and digging to get a semi-complete list.
Is every type of mushroom on this great planet catagorized and marked, I think not, same for mj.
You would have to find your way to Asia,South America, New Zeland, New Guniea, China, Former Soviet Republics...ect....hope you get the picture. And many will probably never be found, or growers/breeders are hopping so. Many strains never make it out of villages. It is a centuries-old genetics that these folks are guarding, and they are serious.
I am not an authority on IBL strains, but with 30+ years of toking, I have seen my fair share of grass. Chimera's list is good, and that is many, but never, never think you have seen every type of this or that, because that is not the case....good luck with your search.

true breedin to me would be more along the lines of a land race. a open pollinated strain. weed has so many qualities that its more or less strains are stable for certain traits. your always gonna see some variation in weed.

Of course, what both of you said is correct, but my intention is not to document every true-breeding strain. My intention is to determine a few readily available commercial strains which give known results for breeding.

Of course there is variation within a group of siblings, but Northern Lights is, from what I understand, true-breeding. This means results are fairly predictable.

mmm known results from breeding ... ideally you would want to stablise them yourself over many generations , both parents prior to the cross , then you may have more chance of "guessing" the outcome of the cross and have less variation ....

Question So Californian

Would you concider say Mazar as a True Breeding Strain? I would say it was.

At the very least it is relatively Stable. So I think you would concider Hybreds in your list IF they are Stable relative to traits that strain is "Famous" for?

Trying to hammer the lingo out my self.

there are many strains around which exhibit stable characteristics. what most see is that each plant is of equal height. someone sees a grow of plants that grow the same, have the same leaf and growth pattern and they seem to think its a stable strain. but thats all, they taste diff, the high ranges all over.

yes some strains are say 75 to 80% stable for certain traits, but in a ten pack ive never seen same like plants in all the seed. even a hard worked F1 still most likely be 50-50 mom and dad.

its really one of those subjects that will be argued over for some time.lots of peeps think F4 and you have a stable strain. ...........ah im ramblin headed off thinkin lots of plants blah, blah, blah

Bump...

I would love to see a list of IBLs or a list of true breeding strains that can be used to make true F1s.

Is a new thread in order?
