What is it with Grower's Ego?
I have to take a moment to rant. There is this friend of mine that I have known for years that has been indirectly involved in a commercial grow op somewhere here in Texas. For years they have been growing some sort of Skunk variety and nothing else. As I remember, it is pretty good smoke with the good ol' skunk smell that permeates EVERYTHING in it's presence.
Today, when I saw him, I asked him if his grower buddies would like something else to grow. I was going to offer clones from my upcoming grow in exchange for a LITTLE bit of their smoke. I thought it was a very generous offer. His response was quite odd. He asked what did I mean. I said, "you know, try growing a different strain". He still didn't understand. I then explained that a different strain meant to try a different variety of MJ. He was like, "Oh no no no, this is the best you can find anywhere in the world". Now, mind you, he has been smoking this same strain since I first met him in 1998. You would think a little variety would be in order. He then proceeded to tell me (based on what his EXPERT growers have told him) that you just can't clone any plant. It has to be a special MOTHER type of plant that is very rare to find and that you can't clone any plants from seeds from Amsterdam because the seed companies make sure you can't. That way you have to keep buying seeds from them! I couldn't F'ing believe my ears! This guy actually believes that he has some Holy Grail of plants that is the ONLY one you can continue to clone from. He says to me, "Why would seed companies sell seeds that you could clone from? They would go out of business overnight!". I was like, "first of all, there are literally millions of people growing worldwide that they have as a customer base and that doesn't even begin to consider the fact that, at present, there are over a THOUSAND strains to select from". "Haven't you ever heard of variety? Or do you just eat meat and potatoes for every F'ing meal, every F'ing day?". When I mentioned just a few of the different varieities that are out there, he looked at me like I was speaking Egyptian. I could tell that he was getting offended by what I was saying but I just couldn't believe the bullshit he had been fed. Maybe this egotistical attitude just prevails just in good ol' Red Neck Texas. I have just gotten so used to the brotherly, bend over backwards to help attitudes of all the beautiful people on here, like: Dutch Grown, Gyspsy Nirvana, Resdog, Texas Kid, Great Lakes THC, BOG and too many others to name!! I am sorry for going on and on here but I was truly blown away by the ego and ignorance that prevailed throughout this conversation. He says to me that I don't know just how BIG his growers are. He boasts that Metallica are some of their customers and they come to his growers because they grow the best weed in the world!! It just saddens me that this attitude exists out there when the true attitude of the Cannabis Culture is one of sharing, giving and mutual affection for the herb. Anyway, thanks for listening and I'll be checkin' in to see what some of your thoughts on this are! Peace.

Most of our grower friends around the world have not been fortunate enough to run into ICMAG or OG. Most people learn how to grow from 1 other person or setup, and tend to really hold to those original ideals in which rumor and legend rule. The online pot community is now establishing a 'market of truth', and starting to spread knowledge about MJ to the masses. We can bounce ideas off eachother, and constantly improve our setup and strain collection... I'd just pass him a URL...
I know exactly what you mean though, most people have no idea how easy it is to order seeds, and the possibility of what you can do with just a few seeds. All in good time, we do live in the information age, right?

true so true
I'm another Texas native, and this is very true. Seems like they never picked up a Hightimes or any other mag and looked through it. Some of these growers are a little behinid the times or misinformed about mj.

well you need to:
pick up a copy of int'l cannagraphic and throw a small bud of your own & be sure & lable the herb whatever it is or just tell him this is whatever, see if he can figure it out.
Line from a movie: Some people you can't teach.

Sure am glad I had a few packs of beans with those "special mothers" in them.
His sounds like pure ignorance and under exposure to the cannabis culture that is moving at a rapid pace around him. I do know quite a few "pot snobs" that swear by their shit, one hit wonder, the best in the world , ..whatever.phss... especially in Hawaii, but sometimes they were right, it was the best weed in the world.lol. They don't even know I grow so I just sit a soak it in for a bit then move on. We all have a common interest, so share the wealth, whether it be knowledge, beans, clones, support, or whatever that has a positive impact on the community. Now with all that being said, is that badass skunky skunk from the mid 80's that he has? hehe Tex |

THANK YOU "The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this." Albert Einstein, "My First Impression of the U.S.A.", 1921 "Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded." Abraham Lincoln, U.S. President. 18 Dec. 1840 PLEASE don't PM me for seeds or cuts,.. Thank you |

Growerinshorts: How true you are! I guess we are the fortunate few that have stumbled across such wonderful sites as ICMag, etc. I would pass him the URL but I'm not sure the dumbass (j/k, he is a friend/associate) even knows how to use a computer!
Hawkeye: Greetings fellow Texan!! It still surprises me that such bs as folklore and legend can still dominate the world of weed like this. I mean, like Growerinshorts said, we live in the information age for Christ's Sake!! What do they think? Nothing new and innovative can be discovered in the cultivation of cannabis? We can't have progress like every other F'ing thing on the face of the earth? Jeezz, get with it people!! Dezertomb: Whatever movie that quote came from, they must have been talking about this guy!! If I were to give him some of my future herb (btw, I will be growing Apollo Mist (Resdog), AK47 x C99, Blue Thunder, Blueberry and some surprises from Gypsy and Dutch), I KNOW his ego wouldn't let him admit if mine were better than his Skunk. Even if it left him babbling on the floor!!!! Texas Kid: I am truly honored that you stopped by. It's local guys like you that give me hope that not everyone here is a moron. How right you are . . . here's to those Mysterious Mothers that we all desire!! :p It was in that common interest of sharing the wealth that I made what I think was a generous offer to him. Certainly after 6 YEARS of the same smoke you would think he would have been delighted to take me up on it. To answer your question, his Skunk (he doesn't even have a clue as to what type it is) is oooookay but nothing out of the ordinary IMO. I had some Kali Mist at the Deep Purple/Joe Satriani/Thin Lizzy show at the Smirnoff Center last summer that completely blew this stuff away. Hell, I don't even really like Satriani that much and, after 5 or 6 good tokes, I thought I was seeing God up there playing guitar!! lol I highly doubt that it's the early 80's Skunk that started all these wonderful new strains when it was brought to Amsterdam by the Skunk Man. If it is, then the breeders of today are working miracles!!! Thanks again for stopping by man and, don't forget, my band will be playing O'Rileys on December 3rd. Don't worry I'll PM you. Later.

At least your friend doesn't think hydro is a strain. ROFL, that kills me most of all!
I bet it would blow his mind if you showed up with a "magic clone"!
