GDS2 Test Grow
I've decided it might be easier to start a seperate thread, although this may be the same as the GDS1 strain. Below are two pictures. The first shows two small seedlings which sprouted from the same seed. The next is a picture of the other 8 healthy seedlings. They are in soil under a 400W MH light in a small 4x4 shower stall. I'll update with new pictures in a few weeks when they look a little more interesting. I can say so far that the seeds were VERY easy to germinate, and vigor seems high. They all look almost identical, aside from the small twins. I placed the seedlings under a humidi-dome, and I think they may have gotten a little stretched from that. The cups weren't quite full anyway, so I just filled them to the top.
The twin on the right has the same leaf pattern as all the other seedlings, but is slightly smaller. The one on the left is too small to determine its growth pattern. Last edited by AriesXX; 09-01-2007 at 05:18 AM.. |

Thank you for the thread, enjoy the seed. The strain is indica dominant but you will see some varition in the genotypes. If treated well you should have a 80% female ratio.

Bosshydro, you are overwatering and under feeding them. They can also handle more light then what they are reciveing. Not trying to tell you how to grow, just wanted to give you some info on my strains.

I did the same thing, BossHydro, only worse. My were fine until they reached about four inches, then they started to yellow and just look weak. I was also under-feeding and over-watering. I figured it out though, treat these like Kali Mist and its crosses. Make your media about 30-50% lighter than usual, and feed steadily with N, allowing the media to dry out between waterings. I would also recomend transplanting these into 1 gal. containers once they have their second or third set of leaves. This will allow for wet/dry cycles without you having to water them every hour. This picture shows the result of our mistake. Stretch, wilty, weak looking leaves, and below-average growth.
This strain is by no means dificult, but if the grower treats it the same as all the other strains in the room, the quality will (and did) suffer. My Kali-Most did fine because I anticipated its needs and gave it an ultra-light mix of Light Warrior and Ocean Forrest. My C99xGrapefruit also had a few react this way, but not as severely. I am currently treating them with GrowBig at 1 tbs/gal, and they are responding favorably by greening up and putting on new leaf at the internodes. Here is a comparison of a typical GDS2 with a typical Menagetois (freebie) from MOD. These were started at the same time and given the same treatment. I did have a great male/female ratio of 50%. I say this is great because most other strains would not have flowered female under such poor conditions. I'll put up pictures in a few days once those N problems are sorted, they really don't do the strain justice. I guess our first observation might be something like: GDS2 should be kept in a lighter-than-normal media. Begin feeding slowly, but bring it to full strength by the third week of veg. Something like that? Oh, one more thing, at this height and health, they still have a VERY strong smell coming from the stems. Easily as strong an odor as the Diesels I've grown. Kind of skunk/bad-breath smell. Also, they showed sex within 4 days of 12/12 without any kind of 24hrs of dark or anything, just a switch. |

Well, just to update, out of 5 females, only one of them is sort-of-healthy looking. The other 4 were just too water-logged, I guess. Most of my strains had 1 or 2 with Nitrogen defs., and when treated, all showed recovery ranging from total health (old and new growth recovered), to new-growth only recovery. The GDS2 showed no signs of recovery. Meanwhile, the Menagetois I started at the same time are looking fantastic. Glossy green leaves, short internodal spacing, and lots of bud-sites. The way I see it, there are a few explanations.
1. Luck of the draw- I just got 10 weak seeds, whereas someone else got 10 fantastic ones. 2. I suck at growing- Okay, this is possible. Maybe if I hadn't let them get over-watered and underfed they'd be looking good. 3. This particular group of seeds, GDS2, are not up to the high standards people have come to associate with GrowDoc Seeds. At the least, more R&D will be needed. Another group of testers should be sent out, and if their results confirm mine, then GDS2 should not be released to the public. I will most likely cull the 4 smallest plants and just continue to post regarding the one 'keeper'. I'll be transplanting it from it's 1 gallon bag into a 3 when it's ready, probably sometime next week. Different strains certainly are more 'idiot-proof' than others, but still, I'm really surprised these didn't at least out-perform the Menagetois freebie I'm growing. |

There was nothing wrong with those seedlings at that stage.
![]() Other than the soil looks too wet... (the green algae on the soil surface indicates overwatering...) so perhaps let the top soil dry out between waterings,, and go easy on the feed next time. edit: the tip of the plant off-screen,, has nute burn  peace out
