Best Way to Go...

I vacuum seal my buds also, but have mostly used plastic vac bags for this purpose. I find that even after 4 years in proper storage the medicine is almost as good as when sealed.

Glass does a better job of allowing the flavors/smells of the medicine to remain intact, but if properly cured before putting into plastic you will still have a tasty and potent product even after years of controlled storage.

One thing I have noticed is I don't like to pull a strong vacuum on my buds being placed into plastic bags seal a meal bags as it will crush the buds and distorts how the medicine looks, not sure if anything is lost but I do it mostly for bud appeal and the ease of handling when your ready to enjoy you aged medicine...

Medicine put under a vacuum seal after a proper cure and stored well, I would think 5+ years would be doable!

I just ordered a jar sealer attachment for my B&D sealing appliance. And some oxy absorb stuff - someone from Oregon, on another board, mentioned using the oxy absorb packets in his jars of herb, and how well that works.

I currently use C-Vaults for "long-term" storage.

I use the jars and the bags, buds in the bag last for years (4+ for me)

I use the bags for the longer branched buds that I don't want to break up.

cheers

just my 2 cents, but i really love smoking frozen pot. Even small stems burn to a fine white ash. And, the smoke is cooled through the herb. I don't even break it up (much), I just crush the bud down and compact it into a joint, maybe crush out the stem and twist it up.

Straight from the freezer it cools the flames and keeps you blazed up and soaring high.

Someone said it fucks with the molecules, I have no idea if that's valid or not. I just know a fridge and freezer full of weed has made past winters here and there bearable.

Not sure if you met THC123 the other day, the guy is a mine of useful information, this thread he just posted may also be of help. https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=261703
Thanks for the tip and the link. Both very useful. Mostly things went well with some good smells to come home to and some very well cured bud.

I ended up putting everything in Mason Jar's. Then I scattered rice and layered ripped up newspaper in the bottom drawer of my fridge. Also put a could of open packs to bicarb of soda on the top to help keep RH down and smell out.
I'd tested it beforehand and the temp tip allowed me to try and get the jarring room as cold as possible with similar RH to avoid condensation. This also worked well enough that I'm considering buying a mini fridge in which to keep my stash!

There was one weed I had to chop at the last minute. It was 7-10 days off being finished. I ended up using various different drying techniques including putting it in a basket with a fan attached for several hours and eventually in the microwave between 2 sheets of paper towel!
I think I overdid it a bit bit to be safe I put some rice in with it in the jar as dessicant and to be fair it turned out pretty well. The bud is overly dry but well formed and not dusty at all. It smokes well and even has a little mango smell and flavor although to be fair the smell/taste is poor, especially compared to what it could have been if it had been allowed to mature, dry and cure as normal.

The other 4 kinds have matured very nicely which evens the scales a little.

The way smell/potency/effect seem to change over time cured is an interesting subject in itself. The richness of the smell of my critical jack herer alone compared with 5 weeks ago is enough to make it a worthwhile exercise. However the real benefit seems to be easily quantified as it seems the effect can change over time with the cure.
For example with my critical jack herer there is now a much more noticeable head stone along with the nice happy high compared to 5 weeks ago when there was only the happy high.
Is this some kind of placibo effect or is there real science to explain?
(My apologies if this is an obvious subject already but it staggers me just how little seems to be known about weed and weed related science like just this kind of thing. Surely it could be very useful to know and possibly manipulate so weed can medicate more correctly more often in the future.)

Anyhow (takes deep breath). Panic over. Time to party.

It should last at least a few years when under nitrogen gas without loosing potency..but there could be still some degratation processes, haven't looked much into it.

I agree with Pipedream in posts 3 and 5...
I too, have been using a "weedsaver" also known as a foodsaver, for many years. (since the early 80's I think)
The one I have now is so old the heating element for sealing bags is burnt out, but that doesn't matter. I never used the bags, since they crush your buds flat, but the jar attachment will vacuum your personal stash in mason jars..Ive opened jars 2 years later that were like the day I vacuumed them. Jars that Ive opened 4 years later still had the same smell and potency, the buds have just gotten a little darker, slightly browner, and I think that's due to light infiltration over the tears. I plan to spray paint the outside of all my jars black next year, which should keep out 100% of light.. I just store the quart jars in their original carton in my closet where they stay between 60 to 72 degrees all year 'round..
