Man sent to jail for selling light bulbs. Another tragedy of the drug war

LINK

Quote:
"But he's only half-kidding. Nearly a decade ago, he was sent to prison as a result of a once-infamous federal drug case that sparked national outrage for its rough interpretation of justice.

In the spring of 1994, the Tucker family received lengthy prison sentences -- 10 years for Steve, 16 years for his older brother Gary, and 10 years for his brother's wife, Joanne -- without possibility of parole, for the curiously worded federal crime of "conspiracy to manufacture marijuana."
Man this makes me so angry! **** the pigs!

Over the last decade, drug convictions have accounted for more than 80 percent of the growth of the federal prison population, so it's hardly surprising that, as the drug war swirled outside, amassing new victims, Steve Tucker was essentially forgotten.
And this is why the war on drugs continues. Because it funds everything from local law enforcement, politicians, corrections, administrative support, logistics/supplies, cheap labor.... and the list goes on.

Its TOO profitable for the gov't to reduce or give up their lil war.

Conspiracy charges are no laughing matter. Years ago when the fed's changed the rules of the game to best suite them I had a few friends go down on conspiracy charges. They lost Families, Fishing boats, Homes & Cars, not to mention their freedom.

It's another prime example of government gone wild !

Wow... I don't even know what to say. That is the most ****ed up thing I've ever read about when it comes to the topic of drug enforcement...

I feel aweful for these victims of the DEA

I bought my first hid light from their store. I went to rallies for them for several years in piedmont park, it was a horrible thing that was done to them and it continues to happen today all over the good old usa. I've often thought about them over the years and even bought the cc issue that had the story in it. I always wondered what happened and felt ashamed when I read the story that I hadn't followed it and tried to help it some way.

Sigh... why don't they just ****ing legalize it already... then they can have their profit and we can have our pot... not to mention probably a lot happier country. Yea people will still grow it, but I guarantee the gov would make triple what they are now but just selling it. I think in order for that to happen though we have to link cannabis to some kind of cancer that eventually causes death.

I didn't read the entire article, because it was extremely long, but is this accurate ?

The name Gary chose for his store -- Southern Lights And Hydroponics -- was a nod to a successful Mid-Atlantic chain called Northern Lights, which itself was named after a particularly potent strain of Alaskan weed.

Northern Lights is Alaskan ?

I thought it was Thai & Afghani.

Also, there seemed to be a lot of snitches involved in that story. Everything from an employee at the store that would pass on info about customers to the feds, and even a friend of the store owners who wore a wire ?
