New to coco, newb questions
Hello all, thinking about trying coco, I am a soil grower and decent at it
But soil pisses me off because I want to control exactly what nutrients are in my medium, and control the pH, and for me that is hard in soil Anyways... I'll be hand watering every day or every other I would germinate my seeds in soil by putting the seed directly in the soil medium and keeping it moist, they'd sprout in 3-5 days and begin growing. Can I do this in coco? Just fill a plastic cup with coco and place the seed directly in the coco and keep it moist? I wanted to use Advanced Nutrients Monkey Juice, After reading their description they say that in coco, improper nutrient levels can cause lockout of certain nutrients... so does this meaning using additives like AN SensiCal and AN Big Bud would be a bad idea? How much perlite would you suggest for hand watering? I was thinking 60% coco, 40% perlite, or a 70/30. Thanks everyone, coco looks like a great way for a beginner like me to enter the world of hydro . I can start slow by hand watering my coco, kind of like soil - only more often. Then maybe after a couple runs I can get a real hydro setup? hmmm, sounds fun

i also cover the cups with plastic wrap to keep the humidly up so u dont have to water the sprout u should b able to use the same nute's u were using i wouldnt suggest ne perlite @ all i used it before n i didnt like it roots grew alot better with out it imo

I don't recommend perlite as it is totally unneeded. If you must no more than 50%.
If you wish to water every 2-3 days go with a larger final flowering container like 2-3 gallons. Whichever watering schedule you choose it is important to stick with it, and the more you can water the quicker and bigger the results, yet still, when i handwatered every 2-3 days the results were better than DWC sitting next to it, just not as tall. The AN thing is just saying they are tailor made for coco. Many supplements are fine in coco, just not all, the main thing is that the base nute is appropriate. Seeds are extreeemely vigorous in coco, watch out!

hey all
i think i wanna use Canna's nutes, their Coco A & B, Rhizotonic, Cannazym, and PK 13-14. And maybe get some Cal-Mag+ and Liquid Karma because i'll be using RO. im thinking about starting in 1 gallon then near the end of veg transplant to 3 gallon, they'll be bush plants not tall or anything and i decided no to perlite because coco coir already has great drainage and aeration right? i just hope im making a good decision switching from AN Monkey Juice to Canna Coco A & B... im sure theyre basically the same |

Hey SMTF's, I hope you dont mind, but me being a newb I have some questions as well, and I didnt want to start a whole new thread. I'm using the AN line just like you, and I have most of the products. Is it absolutely necessary to use coco specific nutes? I've already spent so much on their line of nutes
that I dont want to drop another ~80 on Monkey Juice Grow/Bloom. I use their 3-part formula, and also have Cal/Mag. What if I used the 3 part like in soil, but add the cal-mag into the base nute formula, and then just add my supp's till I reach desired ppm? I use 0ppm RO water btw. I use the following AN products 3-part B-52 Fulvic Humic Sensi-CalMg Sensizym Scorpion Juice Voodoo Juice Carboload Big Bud Overdrive Are any of the above products not advisable when using a strait Coco medium? I'm almost ready to take the plunge and would love to share my grow with you guys! I'm so close to my next cycle, I'm sweating bullets over here!!! Last edited by C_Q; 07-25-2007 at 11:20 PM.. |

im not using ne coco specific im using GH flora nova bloom n grow its more of a hydro/organic nute mix
i might stick with them so that i can dial in my grow more its my 2nd grow with it i like it for the ease of use from reading this lucus thread canna nutes are really diluted https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=21119 8 ml of GH FN bloom = 1/3 the the strength of canna's A + B @ full strength for the P, K and Mg so i think as long as ur using the right nutrient profiles ur good to go if i have something thats stronger than canna that means im buying less nutes which is a plus. im going the route of alot of old school growers with the motto "LESS IS MORE" and "KEEP IT SIMPLE" therefore im just going to b using GH FN bloom - i might get micro and bloom when i run out but FN is PH buffered liquid karma gonna try silica PK product already have open sesame and beasties some bloom booster

C_Q I would make sure they can be used for coco by contacting a hydro store or AN. I dont think Monkey Juice would cost you $80, I know you could still use most of your additives though.
But honestly is it worth risking losing your crop due to not wanting to buy the correct nutrients? Canna Coco A & B would only cost you $30 total i think, check it out. You could just use that with your AN additives i dont think it'd matter I think the biggest thing is just to watch your ppm levels closely, because in coco a wrong amount of something can cause lockout of other nutrients... or something... i dunno.. read the description of monkey juice they tell ya |

I like the Monkey Juice a lot--plants seem to respond better in my subjective opinion.
I use a 50/50 hydroton and coir (hydroton on the bottom, coir on the top) w/a drip system. Works for me. Peace love and hairgrease, EM

Yeah I am not sure whether I want the Canna Coco A & B or the AN Monkey Juice, I am thinking Canna because it is cheaper.
I know I will be getting... Canna Rhizotonic Canna Cannazym Canna PK 13 14 Botanicare Liquid Karma AN SensiCal AN FinalPhase AN Clone It AN Jump Start I think that's it, The Canna Coco A & B have a lot of feed back in this forum. But the Monkey Juice has very little, and I've seen some killer buds on the Canna stuff so I am thinking that route, cheaper too. |

Hey smelltheflowers, I hear ya on the cheaper nutes. The Monkey Juice is gonna run me $75 US for 4 x 1L's grow A/B & bloom A/B. But I'm just gonna run with the Monkey since I'm already running their entire line just about.
I love the jumpstart tho! spray 1x a day till rooted. I usually get rooted in 7-8 days in rapid rooters. |
