A bit of help please

So i want to switch my mediums. I still like soil but looking for something else. I thumbed thru IC and see alot of people have tried coco coir and have never looked back. I was looking online for different sources of coco. Do you guys just get the compressed bricks of it to use? Also i see some people use either lucas or GH nutes with coco. What are your experiances with nutes and what do you recommend? Any help would be appreciated. I have been doing some reading so please dont say " use the search button" lol.

I am basically an idiot when it comes to coco coir and need a crash course

Awesome Mr N good to hear you're makin the switch. I've tried several types but can only speak from experience and Botanicare is the best overall, the larger the brick the more you save....if ya can't get it or don't want to soak and rinse it go with B'cuzz, already soaked/rinsed and ready to go, just more annoying to carry and finer texture. For nutes I would highly recommend AN Monkey Juice, by the gallon, best price. If you can't get that go with Canna. Don't get locked into mixing in perlite, it is totally unnecessary.

Basically I would keep it as simple as possible and go with a nute made for coir until you get a feel for it, and know what kind of results to expect, before experimenting with alot of organics, or GH etc....my best run was just:

Rhizotonic
AN M.J.
Liquid Karma

till week 5 when i added:
Carboload
PK 13/14

...for 2 weeks, then flushed. Finito.

There's alot more to say but I'll let others chime in.

Grenouille will become famous soon enough
you don't even need to use the search function to find that info, read the stickies,
they answer those questions and more.

There really isn't a drastic difference in the way people use their coco. Just take a little time to look at everyone's grow threads, and you will find out just how ridiculously easy growing in coco is.

Best of Luck

Here's what I use.

Canna coco coir - no rinse
Canna A+B - use it for the entire grow
Canna PK 13/14 - during flower, use it during week 2, week 5, and again for a week during the second week before harvest. I used the PK differently and had very good results. Use it at half strength at least and cut back on the Canna "B" to about half of normal while using the PK. It's strong shit, hehe.

Canna Cannazym - used to keep roots and coco in premo shape. Really only necessary if you're gonna reuse the coco. I wasn't reusing so I saved my money and didn't use the zym.

Canna Rhizotonic - used it during the seedling stage for about a week to ten days or so and am feeding 3 WW clones from my last grow with it now. It has low nute levels and is easy on seedlings and clones.

That's it! Hand watered with a 50/50 mix of RO/tap pH'd to 5.8. Watered once a day, two plants under 600w and 400w lights. Runoff varied from 5%-20% and ec climbed two or three times but was easily cured with a brief plain pH'd water flush at 3 times the volume of the pots. Yielded about 972g of dried and semi-cured bud. Used 3 gal pots and went straight from the solo seedling cups to the 3 gal pots at day 10 of seedling. Veged for another 14 days and flipped em to 12/12. I watered two hours before lights out to keep humidity levels in check during the nights. There was a period during about weeks 2 through 6 of flower that I watered twice a day due to the bud growth of the plants. They showed signs of needing a little more nutes during that stage so I obliged.

I cut my Canna B back to about half as I said during the times it used the PK. I added 2mL/gal of PK during this period. Ended up using the PK during weeks 2, 5, 6, and 7. During the last 4 weeks of flower, I reduced the nitrogen (canna A) by 25% a week until during the last week, all I did was feed with plain RO water.

I grew 1 White Widow and 1 Aurora Indica. They were from questionable genetics and I still got a decent harvest. Coco's the way to go. Simple! Don't add perlite, cal-mag+, or anything else for that matter and all things being equal, you can expect a decent harvest. Some like to put some molasses in the grow for taste but I can't see where the taste of my ganja needs any help. Maybe I'm just not the connoisseur of weed everbody else is. Mine tastes decent and gets me fucked up. No prob, lmfao.
Hope this helps. Here's a link to my first coco grow. Lots of info if you can sift through it, hehe. I tried to ask every question I could come up with no matter how stupid it was. gaiusmarius chose to help me as did many others here at ICM. KICK-ASS bunch of folks here.

I'm not saying mine is the end-all of threads and all your questions will be answered but I can't think of anything I didn't run into (except bugs) that you might have trouble with. Cal-Mg+ did its best to kill my grow so I now use it to kill weeds in the back yard, lol. Tried it when I was using straight RO water so I could give the plants the trace minerals they were missing from the water. After I rescued the plants and escorted the Cal-Mag+ jug out of the grow area and into the garage, I switched to the 50/50 mix of tap/RO and they got all they needed. No need for the supplements as far as I'm concerned.

Others use it and a few don't have any problems. But those are folks like Grat3fulH3ad, -VT-, and the like and those peeps got their shit together into a little tidier bag than do I, hehe.

I couldn't be happier with the medium. Canna coco's hard to come by around here so I made the switch to B'cuzz. Haven't used it yet but it's got a good rep as being ready-to-use right out of the bag, as is Canna coco.

Good luck man! Holler at me if ya think I can answer something for you. You know your shit though and you're gonna love this medium.

Peace

Edited:
BTW, I'm thinking of making the switch to HESI nutes as I hear they have a very clean line of nutes. They have a coco specific line I intend to use. Anyone here have any experience with HESI nutes and coco????? Canna is so damned hard and expensive to get here to the center of the US, I have to do something and HESI seems the way to go.

First off i would like to thank all for their responses. I did read grat3fuls thread prior to posting and read some stickies as well. So i dont want you all to think i didnt read and just posted. I been around IC long enough to know not to do that, lol.

so i was looking online for places to order coco coir. I found botanicare 5kg bricks for like 14 bucks. It says the 5kg brick should fill up 18 gallons. is that the best to order?

You can get the bonticare bales for less at many places including "plant it earth".

It usually doesn't require alot of flushing...but I give it a few hot water flushes to get the ppm's under 100.

Cheers,
SH

I'm trying coco for the first time now. I'm using Sunleaves compressed bricks and i hand water using A.N. Monkey Juice. So far i'm happy enough with the results that i'm going to switch from soil to all coco next run.

I had some trouble at first, real odd leaves and stunted growth. I believe i just didn't rinse the coco enough and once i got that straightened out the plant exploded in size.

As far as what coco to use i have no idea. But i'm happy with Sunleaves and will probable use it again.

yes I had the same trouble as clear cutter with the weird leaves and stunted growth... I think the cal - mag was all I needed in my case. One thing about coco is that plants recover very quickly from any mistakes..
I use advanced nutes with cal mag added... hand water once every 1-2 days.
