Cloning for Perfection (or necessity!)
Hello Everyone,
Ed here in the Labs finally getting caught up with the thread I wanted to start on cloning. A published article in several cannabis magazines on the subject by me was well received. If you happen to find the necessity for backing up a plant and have only one healthy and viable cutting that you must keep alive, I highly suggest carefully monitoring the heat and humidity in your rooting environment. Not only will the clone root faster, the chances of survival are crucial in the first 3 days from the time you take the cutting. In the labs we use typical clear plastic storage containers put upside down and placed directly under flourescent lighting. They are actually used as incubators for the cuttings. The success rates with this method are consistently over 98%. Success to you all. |

Cloning Update
Sorry for not being more specific. The humidity inside the plastic tote container should be between 70-80%, and the temperature of the surrounding enviroment should be no less than 20 degress C.
Keep an eye on the water beads on the inside of the container and wipe away periodically to avoid over humidity. We like to place a tray of clones on a rooting cloth inside the container and keep wet with water and a very diluted rooting stimulator. After 4-5 days you can ajar the plastic lid while the cutting continues to root. If you see the leaves droop or seem to fail, place the cover back on and continue the process until the cutting starts to thrive. Allow a further week of monitoring this process until you see white roots emerging from your medium. To remember, when placing the cutting into your medium the closer to the side you place it will allow it greater airflow and a faster rooting time. I hope this helps.
