The youngsters here . . .
I have noticed that the folks with the most strident opinions and posts here always seem to be young (<25 or so), has anybody else noticed this? Were we this cocksure of everything when we were that age?
Maybe it was different because without the 'net we actually had to look at people when we said what we thought, the anonymity of the web seems to relieve some folks of their normal constraints (along with manners and forethought, apparently). I guess I'm just feelings my years (and scars) today, any comments?

pencil necks
hey Maj i agree .from the relative saftey of they"re lap top .although i think we where just as stupid at that age.but not so rude obviously for fear of getting punched out.
Also this pencil neck syndrome that so many of them have god knows where this comes from. We certainly didnt think the world owed us a living, and thought nothing of walking 5 miles to see a friend. Ive noticed that most of them cant fight either.i came to this conclusion after my mate Dale and i stretched out 6 happy slappers at a service staition 18 mnths ago

Buncha whipper snappers!
When in my early to mid twenties, I to thought I was the knower of all things. And I guess if there would have been internet, I would have made it known to all. As it was we did our opinion sharing at bars, bowling alleys, bon fires, beaches, and misc. wooded areas around town. Back then you had to have some balls to express outside the norm ideas. Now all ya need is a computer. Of course we are tougher than this generation. Most only leave mothers basement to get taco bell and back to the computer. I remember getting into a full fledged fist fight because a dude had the nerve to say Cheap Trick was better than Led Zeppelin! Yes they seem to for the most part be a bunch a whiney, self absorbed, know it alls, who cant and wont bust a grape. The good thing is that after fifteen or twenty years they'll mature enough to realize they know nothing at all. Just like me.

Hi All,
I must agree Maj. I watched a lot of people picked up by the very person that put them down. Both shake hands and walk away, disagreement solved. Nowadays, shit, I strike 1st. I'm too old for all that crap. And way too ornery to take any mess. You got a gun? So! Can you hit my ass as I try to rip your throat out? Good sermon this morn. Got my vinager pumping. I do believe we were just as cocky, but with instant gratification came swift retrabution. The computer has taken that away. 420

You're spot on Major.
Just imagine them getting that way in real life face to face. Actually I can't. |

For me I didn't become and adult until I realised how my actions affected others.
When you are a kid, you are the center of your world and it revolves around you. When you have some more experience, you see that we do have an effect on the world so we tread a little more lightly. And you realise that what you give is what you get. Haven't had to hit anyone for a loooong time. |

Yeah dude, you cant group all under 25'year olds together lol...im young, and not stupid..i kinda know when my opinions dont belong. But you are right in saying guys and some girls my age, are at the very least out-spoken...some young men and boys think that stabbing people is cool, also think guns are fashion accesories.
Its all over the papers in the UK, tied in with a 'Reefer Madness' campaign just like the 50's/60's... Jah bless..

Hi all,
BeAn and Devilock I don't think Major was trying to group all younger peeps into a bitch slap group. He did mention that the majority of obnoxious or negative posts tend to be generated by younger members. It may be true or younger members post more frequently elevating the potential number of (let's make up a name) Pompous Posts or PPs for short. If the group is larger then extremes become wider and more arcing curves. hmmmmm..... "Are YOU old?" He asked. " To a Peach I am old. To a head of lettuce even more so. But to a mountain I have barely begun in years." He replied. As far as younger people being spoiled, less thoughtful, more dangerous, etc., etc., well...maybe, maybe not. It is hard to tell. Don't we want to make our children's lives easier and safer, and give them more than we had. Perhaps some parents focus too much on this, neglecting other important life lessons like manners. OR maybe our cultural values have been degraded by advertising, TV, do nothing political strategies, religious strategies, and the barrage of images ( mostly negative or dis-enpowering). When those of us who might have been less exposed or old enough to have escaped exposure see and read the thoughts of the younger generation ONLY THEN do we notice an apparent disintegration of values and social skills. Let us focus instead on older people who may not be writing in this forum. I seem to know just as many ( if not more) belligerent and and foolishly out spoken older folks as young ones. SURE it is best to listen intently before speaking but everyone has to start somewhere. Let's make it here. PEACE DA

Not all . . .
I meant my comments as a general observation, not an across the board condemnation. There are exceptions to every rule, life has taught me that lesson thoroughly.
However, and I mean this in the best possible sense, when you are older (a decade or so) you will look back at who you were now and smile at how naive you really were (in many things, not all). I know this because it has happened to me many times, and also to everyone I know well enough to discuss that sort of thing. That doesn't mean you are dumb or that your opinions aren't worth listening to, not at all. You are all worthy members of this site and probably good folks, but like faith in God, becoming a parent, or war, there are some things one cannot know until personal experience teaches them. I fully expect if I make it to 60 to look back at my 41 self now and smile (mostly amazed to be there), if not I will have wasted 20 years. "The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life." - Muhammad Ali
