Flushing Coco
can i flush my coco medium with plain tap water? I'm going to be adding Clearex to the mix as well...but as long as the PH is adjusted will the coco handle the tap water or am I that much better off using Distilled or RO

yes you can use tap for your flush... you dont evn have to ph adjust or use clearex on it while flushing, just flush it with tap then when your ready to use it use ph udjusted water to set the ph by pouring it through your pot till you get 10-20% run off and you will be good to go

I flush with tap water but I ph adjust it first... if it's the final flush before harvest I guess the ph don't matter that much.

you might want to bubble out the chlorine/chloramine first.
i'm on EBMUD and i always bubble out at least 12 hours. |

yes tap water is fine to flush with as long as the quality is half way decent. you don't want more then ec 0.4 in the tap water. it's best to adjust the ph with all water that goes into your medium, although it won't cause problems if you do as Indica Sativa says above. if your tap water ec is higher, then i'd advise mixing it with ro water to get that ec level down.

I would recommend a longer flush than soil... i have flushed for 2 weeks with no sign of N deficiency.
Thats if you are hand-watering in pots. Not sure if it applies to hydro/drip-fed?

OsWiZzLe, I handwatered once daily for most of my grow so I never really flushed during my grow in the true sense of the word. My plants were on the floor of the closet and couldn't get crazy with the runoff or it would flood the hallway on the other side of the wall, lmfao. What I did was to go 50/50 RO/tap cause my ec on my tap water was terrible. I did pH it before I did it due to the fact that I couldn't fully flush and the water was going to have to stay in there. What I did was to increase my runoff to about 40%-50% and increase the waterings from once a day to 4 times a day. The first runoff always pulled my ec and pH back into a range that wouldn't cause lockouts and within a day or two, both were back to optimum. I know it's an improvised way of doing it but ya work with what ya got, ya know?
As gaius likes to say, "there's more than one way to skin a cat, and more than one way to get the results you're looking for." Hope this info helps somewhere down the line. Peace Last edited by mojo; 07-05-2007 at 06:06 PM.. |

I'm also thinking of flushing my mothers in coco. I belive that the last feeding I gave them the ph was off. How do I go about flushing vegging plants? How long before giving them nutes? How much runoff? Is it okay for them to be under a 1k watt mh, or should I throw in the 600 watt? Thanks!

Second question: I would say once the medium is ready to water again you should/can feed them again. I've read around here 10-20 percent run off. Thats what ive done and works perfect, no problems. Last question: I would say all of that depends on how you have your room set-up, ventilation and size and all. I would use what your room/cab can manage efficiently. |

hi
i grow coco in slabs. i only put 1 time the pot size so not 3 times, but i guess more is better. i measure the ec of the runof and at the end it's more then acceptable, round 0.6-0.7 i als ph the water down to 5.6 with citric acid cause this breaks down the leftover salts. directly after that i make some new water with nutes ec continuing where i left of and give them a bit of that to so they have something to feed on cause you just flushed everything out. i flush once when working with clones about week 3-4 of bloom and if i'm reusing the coco i do it again at the end of the grow also last day or 5 anly ph'd water.
