Can you benefit from mixing lava rocks in coco? I hear great things bout lava rock and bio-buckets, but will it work that good in coco? will it harbor the same amount of beneficial bacteria?

in my opinion they are not ideal to mix. both great mediums on their own, but just too different to be mixed i would think. they have very different watering requirements. what i can see working is a layer of lava rock under the coco to provide extra good drainage.

I have used coco and hydroton before with sucess. hydroton and lava rock are similar so it is possible this would work.

Why don't you give it a shot for us

Broken hydroton pieces are great to house mycho's and other beneficial bacteria.
Some professional mixes use small amounts in their products!

thanks for your opinioons, it was just a thought but hey, if we didnt come up with ideas on how to better our stuff, then we wouldnt have all these great techniques that we use today! thx guys
