How many of you have lawyers on retainer?
How many of you have lawyers on retainer or have a number of a lawyer on you at all times?
I can't tell you how many searches my lawyer has gotten me out of. Just saying you're going to call your lawyer before you exit the car works like a charm(of course, when you know they are just fishing for an excuse, otherwise.. it's better just to get out of the car and lock it, obviously). Oh, and always say MY lawyer... use the cops own intimidation game on them. If you say a lawyer it sounds like you're scared. If you say MY lawyer, it sounds like you're prepared and battle hardened. It's also good to know the name of a very prominent lawyer. I'm talking police chief has a picture of him on the wall to throw darts at hated. I'm talking OJ confessed on the stand and he still got him free then told him to do an R Kelly just to get him off the pedophile charges too hated. Just pretending he's your lawyer may work too if you're broke like me. Luckily my lawyer is a cool guy, since he's a professor too, and he let's me just keep building a tab which i pay back in services and the occasional bag. Oh, this is really important in my opinion: MAKE SURE YOU AND YOUR LAWYER GET ALONG AND S/HE AT LEAST RESPECTS YOUR POSITION AND YOUR VIEWS. It's against the law to be a mediocre attorney(i do believe in some jurisdiction you can be put in jail, and i don't mean sanctions, i mean trial, and obviously, you are disbarred) but so many fing pricks know they'll get paid whether they adequately represent you or not and they know you don'tknow squat about law. My lawyer is actually making sure I understand all he does(not only because i want to be a lawyer) but also so I can just represent myself. Luckily, he's never even had to file a motion on my behalf, just talk on the phone with a cop standing at my window Damn, i just realized i basically wrote a whole thread about my appreciation for my lawyer. Show your attorney some love... they're not all stuffy asswipes. Wasn't Lothar a lawyer? I got a lawyer because of him and his threads, that's for sure. The trademark rant is done... I really gotta learn to write online(freaky thing is i freelance as a writer and the only recognition i've ever won was for cultural journalism) |

I have no clue where you live, but the State Troopers where I live would laugh at you if you told them to talk to your Lawyer. That would only make them mad and make them think you have something to hide. I think threatening a Lawyer would at the least get the dog there.
I have close friends that are Lawyers and I know enough to keep my yap closed. I don't think it's wise advice to be telling people to dial their Lawyer on the side of the road. If you piss the cop off he has a handfull of ways to get "probable cause" to search your vehicle. The best advice is to be respectful but if they ask to search your vehicle, NEVER consent, and admit to nothing...........

ERRRRR.... why not careful...quit doing stupid things... cover your tracks and NOT GIVE THEM A REASON to search you??? You make some very valid points... HOWEVER you seem to ATTRACT the police... BEST to either go take a "once over" in the mirror or better yet... have someone ELSE tell you why the cops pick YOU out!! You OBVIOUSLY give them a REASON to stop you etc... etc... etc.. At the rate your're going.. SOONER or later you're gonna ... well just say HI to Bubba when ya see him.
![]() OH and on your poll you need one MORE. I'm a dumbass and keep my attorney close to me at all times. mb Last edited by mapleboy; 06-24-2007 at 04:01 PM.. |

haha, well, it's hard for me to explain shit without completely identifying myself. let's just say i'm not exactly anonymous....
oh, and i keep him close because he's my mentor dude. did you read the part where i said i want to be a lawyer? and also... cops around here have a tendency to use a "heavy hand" if you know what i mean. the threat of a lawyer is meant to deter physical violence, also, if they are already asking to search my car, and i know i have something, shouldn't i ask to call my lawyer so then when i deny tehm the privilege of searching my contraband riddled non 4th amendment compliant vehicle i have proof of that and there is a witness as to whether or not they really followed procedure? i have even called 911 when pulled over in a secluded area to let them know i was being stopped but would follow to a lighted and populated area for the safety of both the officer and me. i don't know what you do or where you live, i know what i do and where i live, and i know if i didn't make the first move, i could be found in a ditch somewhere with registered ballistics in me... until you've had three friends killed by cops, don't say i'm objecting prematurely. yeah, the high wore off edit: whoa, realized i was a bit aggressive when there really was no need. let's just say it was shell shock. i don't have very good experiences with police. i've gotten to know the business end of a tactical baton whilst peacefully assembled. Sounds like you want to show up on every leo radar out there when the rest of us would more passively like to remain well under it. Crying ' call my lawyer ' every time you get traffic stopped is going to do just that, get you, your name and your car make and model on every leo officers radar. Same goes for evading them. Please tell me what state trains their 911 operators to instruct citizens to break the law by not pulling over when immediately instructed to? Dont you ever watch COPS? When did not pulling over right away ever amount to anything less than a felony stop procedure where they drag your ass out at gunpoint/tazer or force and run your face across the road while they handcuff you?
The best part about having a lawyer on retainer is not having to use them.

haha, man, the thing is i'm going to be on the radar anyway. things here aren't exactly kosher man. things are VERY much not kosher. but whatever. i do what i need to do to survive. i realize now i should have known that situations elsewhere are very much different, and that my personal circumstances are ery much different to what most of you may experience
ok, let's get this straight: 1-i'm not anonymous where i live. not amongst cops, not amongst people either. for personal safety i will not say why. 2-i have been featured in many organigrams, just not enough evidence to file charges against me. 3-thing here isn't not being known, it's not being caught. cops know everything i've ever done, because they've seen me, hell, they probly have videos of most of my friends. edit: the thing is trying to keep the extent of my activities hidden(specially growing... they'd have a field day with me "known my claim to fame arrested on cultivation charges." 4-they know i'm doing illegal shit, so i respond by playing a cat and mouse game. burying them in red tape and warrants. ie: if you come with a warrant to search for "evidence of illegal activity" i'll get my lawyer to say it's too vague(has worked various times for a lot of friends). people, i was wrong in assuming everyone is in the same boat as we are here, but please do understand i don't do anything that is unusual here. anyone that has been in a gang knows what's it's all about. it's not necessarily being anonymous, because that really isn't possible in certain places. it's being one step ahead, playing smart. i actually know a few cops on a first name basis. i wish i could have your anonimity. edit: i should add that our police force employs the national guard to occupy our slums, just to add to the picture. seriously guys, i think you're looking at things through rose coloured glasses... The intentions are good, but as you've stated in your posts very clearly, most of us aren't in your situation or area, so the advice might not apply the same. I'd really like to have a lawyer on retainer but I'm extremely strapped right now. When business picks up in the fall and I have some spare cash I'd really like to get one. That leaves me a few months to find one.

yeah, i realized too late. i just resent people telling me i WANT to be on cop's radars. damn man, i'm a paranoid person, i try to be as plain as possible. i actually hid my talents for a long time because of that, but i figure if anythings ever going to happen, it's better to be arrested as a public figure than an anonymous nobody.
oh yeah, another fact: the police has actually published a list of all known drug lords/salaried hit men. paid informants are a bitch :-P just keep trying to get you guys to understand where i'm coming from, cause i get where you're coming from. |
