Nothin personal, but you got to be kidding me !
Lets say you had to defend youself in a streetfight (could happen), would you rather face a boxer or a multi-dimensional MMA fighter, yeah right...The reason behind the majority of people putting down MMA is because they don't understand it !

THE FACTS:

Boxing = 1 Dimensional = (fist to the head & body; period)

MMA = Multi-Dimmensional = (boxing + muay thai/kick boxing + jui-jitsu + wrestling etc etc...)

Take a world-record setting swimmer, runner or bicyclist and put them in a triathlon, see where they place...hehe

Its one thing to have talent at 1 thing, having talent at a multitude of things is another !

Totally agree with Masterlow37, boxing has it's place, but MMA is on another level. When your required to use much more of your body, it's that much more skill that you have to have. I'd much rather fight a boxer on the street, atleast I would know that I wouldn't get a shin to the head, if you say other wise you probably don't know what your talking about. MMA/UFC fights spend their life doing this, I happen to know about 6 different people personally that have been doing it since they were 5-6 years old. Not to say boxing doesn't require massive skills and heart, it's just like comparing drinking a beer to slamming 4 shots of tequila.
IMO, the reason that people bash UFC/MMA is because it's either become so popular that it's a fashionable thing to hate on it, or they don't actually understand the work it takes to get to the level of alot of the MMA fighters. MMA is future.

ufc guy would get housed in a fight against a boxer, they have horrible condetioning even the guys they say have good condetion get winded right away, and boxers can take punches, they stay calm till the ufc guy is winded, then, thats it,ufc guy is dead

i'am just saying in general, obviously theres going to be exceptions, but yea

well unless, they bitch out and tap him the boxer out, which imo is bullshit, your not a good fighter, you know leverage, thats it....

ufc sucks, because its not DIFFRENT fighting styles anymore, now every jerk off fights the same, which is why you see them holding each other so much, they are to evenly matched, imo pride is much better

Sorry dude but there are so many things wrong with your post. I boxed for years in HS, with more than 25 fights. I now train in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. So I have no prejudice on either boxing/mma. From my past experience I can safely say that a good MMA fighter would beat a good boxer almost all of the time. Boxers know nothing about the ground game, sure they have excellent hands, cardio, movement; but thats it.
They only know how to defend against punches, and if someone tried to take them down it would be so easy to do. The only thing a good MMA practitioner would have to do is take him down and sub him; which would be simple against a boxer who only boxes.
They don't know how to defend against take downs/throws/kicks/knees/elbows/thai clenches/and shots to the legs. Sure there is a chance the boxer would KO the MMA fighter; but there are so many more ways a MMA fighter could win against a boxer its silly.

Its a hard to compare both of these sports as its like comparing apples to oranges. If you put an MMA fighter against a boxer in a boxing match; the boxer would likely win. If you put a boxer against an MMA fighter in an MMA fight; I can almost guarantee the MMA fighter would come out the victor.

On the street, 1v1; the MMA fighter would make the boxer look like a child.

MMA might be the future, from all indicators it will be (media coverage, growing fan base, etc.) But as a boxing fan, I've gotten used to my sport getting fringe treatment, so I don't really view MMA as competition. With all the interest in MMA, some people who would never have followed boxing otherwise will tune in. At least a few kids who take up MMA will enjoy boxing more and gravitate to our side of the fence. These are good things for boxing fans.

The range of skills that need to be mastered in MMA is impressive. This boxing fan learned years ago that these guys are not just "rolling around on the ground." But the tradeoff is that MMA fighters suffer from stamina problems, and very few seem to master all aspects of their trade the way a boxer masters MMA "striking." The nature of the game makes this almost impossible, unless your first name happens to be Fedor (although I hear the Rua bandwagon is gaining steam...)

It's interesting that people feel the need to pit MMA against boxing simply because its combat. Football and baseball both seem to be pretty popular. The fact that they both involve throwing a ball hasn't doomed one or the other.

F*ck Mayweather and De La Hoya. Go to a friends house tomorrow if you don't have HBO and watch Hatton and Castillo show you that boxers still actually fight. After that, watch Antonio Margarito vs. Paul Williams in a couple weeks. As long as fights like this can be made, boxing is far from dead.

Boxing is not dead
and will never die.
those who love boxing, like myself would listen to fights on the radio if the match was worthy, ali v. frazier.
The crowds will not be as big because alot of the hype with
"superstars" is gone for the moment.
But true boxing fans will still be there, maybe a minority but still there.
(as a side note, it used to be you had to beat the champion, now adays, you can box and run and still steal someones belt. thats a crime)
peace
