House & Garden nutes - Cocos vs. Aqua Flakes for recirculating systems
I was just told by my local hydro guy that for growing in coco you should not use Cocos A & B if you have a recirculating system, but instead should use Aqua Flakes. He said he was told that when the H & G rep. visited a couple of weeks ago, because some people were having problems with yellowing. I was too, a little, but I thought it was just my inexperience and I had a great grow, and would have had 2 lb per KW but I had to throw over half out cos the colas got so huge and I didn't control humidity well enough so I got bud rot.
Anyone have any experience / comments on this? problems with yellowing using the cocos in recirc. etc? (BTW - My mix is coco croutons, fibre and earth worm castings, on a 1" thick coco mat on a ebb/flow tray.)

I've never heard of that so bumpin it encase someone else has, but....take everything the hydro guy and company rep have to say with a grain of salt, they have ulterior motives, that being money. Many folks on here have very successful grows using canna and recirculating, just take a look around.

tx for the responses guys but ... maybe I wasn't clear
aeric - just talking about H & G Cocos vs. H & G Aqua, so there shouldn't be any push to sell me something. And I_S ... Gaius is using Canna Coco ... .just talking about H & G. I looked at his thread - nice colas - I got about the same ... about 240 huge colas on 80 plants over a 10' x 10' scrog screen - over 1 oz each, but as I said, lost over 60% due to mold. Largest cola was 8" across!

haha, i was just about to jump to canna's defense, lol.....
it's interesting that the HG rep pushes one product above another, specially when it's supposedly the wrong product for the medium, lol. either he is very honest and it's as he claims, or they have a surplus of aqua flakes.....rofl. peace |

i was talking to the US house and garden tech support today and he was saying that he would use the Aquaflakes in a recirculating system instead of COCO if you didn't change your res once a week. The aquaflakes is more pH stable or something. But if you regularly change your res then you should not have a problem.

This isn't a problem for COCO, this is a problem for how you FEED the coco.
There is recirculation and then there is drain to waste. So obviously drain to waste is for the one you got, and recirc is what you use for aquaflakes. |

BTW, do you have enough money to get the dehumidifier? I sure would if I lost a # that I could have bent the law for to afford. Sears and a few other companies have ones with built in humidistats. Don't even think of not getting the 70 pint, its the only size you should ever get because for most rooms its too small anyways in flower. Then you should look into Thermastor Sante Fe HC for anything larger needs.
