seedling ?

So im going to be getting a lot of beans to grow out...say about 120 or so and im going to need to conserve space...so instead of using domes and shit i was wondering if i can take the germed beans...plop them into rapid rooters and stick them right into a few bubblers to start their life cycle? any ideas/ thoughts would be appreciated....thanks

peace

Hmm

In my experience that would be a lot of moisture for soil. I'd feel better about doing in in a mix of perlite/vermiculite. You can easily xplant later, and even rinse the perlite and vermiculite off the roots if you wish.

Sure you can

I would use rock wool if i was going to do that. Are you talking about dwc bubblers? If so i would keep the water level about an in. below the r. rooter plugs untill thay get some good roots started. The bubbles will break and splash the plug kepping it wet but not soaked.I think would stay TOO wet if thay where put under water.

Californian...there is no soil involved in this...where did u get that idea lol...im trying to save space by not doing soil and have 120 seedling growing in a couple foot space for 7-10 days before i flip

Okie- of course i would have the level below the rockwool or rooter...what u take me for jk...i was just wondering if anyone has actually gone from germ right into a bubbler...instead of doing a dome for a week while they root and pop up from the rooter...

anyone anyone

bueller anyone anyone

yes

I just tried this out. I've got 4 seedlings going in a mini bubbler and yes they are loving it. After germination they were put into grow plugs which sit in 2" net pots with no medium. What started as an experiment seems to be proving itself to be a wise start-up method. I think we'll be sexing them much sooner than we would had they started in soil.

Talking Well

I grow in a soiless mix (peat perlite) but i have done dwc plenty of times. What kinda nutes are you useing?Thay will prob. have dir. for mixing it for clones or seedlings.I would use half of that till thay get roots.Theres no prob. starting seeds in dwc just make sure you dont burn them up!My 2 cents

Hey Soggy i have done something like what your asking.

I took a skunk #1 seed that popped and put it into a coco coir cube and put it into a ghetto bubbler.
It took off and was loving it.
I even had the bottom of it in the water about a 1/4 inch.
I wish it would have lasted longer but i had some def and whatnot and it just died at around 3 weeks.
It was around 6 inches tall in those 3 weeks though.
Im sure your more experienced in hydro then me so youll have no problem doing what your planning.

Good luck with it though cause 120 seedlings is alot of plants.

oops

I misunderstood, what's a rapid rooter? I thought it was one of those peat starters

heres a desription and pic of rapid rooters..............

"The Rapid Rooter uses composted organic material joined with plant-derived polymers to provide ideal conditions for beneficial microbes in the root zone of developing plants. Give plants a head-start for excellent growth potential throughout the life of the plant.

The ones in pic are in a tray.....you can buy them in a bag of 50 for like $15.
