Questions for DJ
I know DJ's a busy man, I do however love the fact that when he finds time he will look at and respond to posts about his creations. I would like to start a thread where people can list questions or coments for DJ Short. With the understanding that sometimes it is months between responce, but when time allows and number of questions is such to justify the time for a proper responce. I would ask that this thread be used mostly for direct question and comment ment for DJ, ofcourse insight from those experanced with DJ's strains is nice and helpful. RED if the idea of this thread is not as good as i intend, let me know. With that lets ask the MASTER himself....
Grow for all the right reasons, Peace GF. Last edited by GentlemanFarmer; 06-09-2007 at 08:12 AM.. |

Great idea! Just remember it will take some time before some of your questions will be answered.

OK - I've got one. In my experience, most strains I've grown generally finish from the bottom up, with the top buds being the final ones to close up. My experience with Flo suggests that the opposite is true - the top buds usually finish first, or at least stop growing at the tips first, with the bud below swelling, and then the buds gradually finish off as they move lower down the plant.
My question is - is this a trait only within Flo itself, or did one of the parental selections display this feature? I can't figure out which though! Though that leads me onto another question that came up in another thread - the Afghani used in all DJ's crosses seems quite mysterious, and may hold the clues to many of these more unusual traits that I'm always looking for in the sativa parents - was this 'top-down' finishing trait possibly displayed in the Afghani instead?

I just wanted to say that I recently got the Canabible 3 from Jason King, and it has a foreword from DJ Short in there, and it was very well written and very informative. Congrats on the recognition, and thank you for doing the community such a good service DJ.
1Love

I'm by no means a djshort and I'm sure his answers would be much better than mine and I hope I'm not acting like too dickly by answering questions to another breeder but pruning/topping can definitely cause a plant to reverse sex and some plants can actually be more sensitive to sex reversal by pruning than the usual factors such as light stress. Topping plants at certain stages of flowering can be very stressfull.
I did have a single creeper pheno thai specimen that was sadly the only seed that germinated of the line under my first indoor grow (the thai seeds were my reason for going indoors) which matured top down. The individual strands of calyxes matured bottom to top but the maturation of the clusters was generally top down. I've also seen it frequently on individuals grown outdoors especially mexican genetics that cover the entire branch in flowers. |
