New Message from DJ Short

Hola! ICMAG DJ Short/Legends contingent:

DJ here, checking in (finally). I hope that all are well. Sorry about my prolonged absence–keeping busy, hunkered down with some focused r. & d. projects. Currently working on resurrecting the original Blueberry Sativa line (BBS–aka Blue Satellite). Two interesting moms found thus far–further testing in effect. Hopefully looking forward to a Fall release of these if all goes well. Wish me luck! Also– more (a small batch) of original Blue Moonshine to be ready in about a month.

I want to respond to and acknowledge a few of the threads here since my last contact back in November. Y’all are doing a great service here. Thank you one and all. There is some excellent info accumulating here. I do check in occasionally (often on a ridiculously slow dial-up connection) and respond as I can.

OK, so here goes:

re: FROSY originally posted 06 Dec.–"Facilitated Variation" –thank you for posting this–good info in there. Also–how’s the GK breeding trial going?

re: JLP, thank you for the strain-guide resurrection–much needed and very helpful.

re: Chuck Liddell orig. posted 07 Jan.–"F13 (49 days 12/12)" Nice photos, thank you for the post.

re: WATSON 853 orig. posted 10 Dec.–"DJ Short Original"–thank you for the great grow, photos and kind words.

re: Gdawg61 orig. posted 14 Jan.–"F13" and "F13 and TB Organic Scrog"–thank you for the follow-up and pics–good job!

re: Firewalker "Blue Heaven"–the thing about Blue Heaven is that it takes more time and space to produce due to the fact that after it is selected, grown, crossed, seeded, the seeds grown, and the finished product from the seeds is allowed to cure, it needs to be re-tested for its anti-anxiety feature to assure authenticity. In other words, space/time constraints limit its current resurrection. BH will be re-released again someday. In the meantime, specimens can be found in either the Blueberry or Flo (possibly F13 as well) lines with an approx. ratio of 1:20 females (1:40 overall). Remember, it is completely dependent upon final analysis of finished product.

re: Dr.Katz420 (kurlyq2g and Throwgar, too) "True Blueberry Macros"–great thread! Thank you and very nice images. Keep up the good work.

re: w00dy "OTM male"–general rule of thumb is to avoid auto-flowering traits unless it possesses a particular trait that is highly desirable. Thanks for the post.

re: Zamalito "Flodica= blue velvet 2.0?" Certain phenotypes do express themselves across various lines. BV and Flo are not directly related (sibling) but more along the lines of "cousins". However, the term "cousins" is sometimes misleading considering the back- and in-breeding capabilities. But, yes, lines/traits similar to BV will appear occasionally and can be selected for and "stabilized". The highest probability of finding a BV individual would ideally (of course) be from the BV line (which will eventually be re-released). Other than that, the BBS (Blueberry Sativa) line would be the next best place to look. Flodica was a complete anomaly in its indica expression from a Flo line grow. Anyhow, thank you Zamalito for your many contributions here at ICMAG–very informative and appreciated (you, redrider and la mano negra are in the some of the planets most opportune sweet spots). I can tell by all of your photos that you are on the right track. I truly envy your locales and would love to visit someday and sample some of that fine tropical herb again. Thank you and please keep up the good work.

re: Maj. Pothead 23 Dec. Post–"Grape Krush w/pics"–great, healthy, full-looking plant. Nice job and thank you–keep up the good work.

re: Thai Phoon 22 Feb. Post–"Johnny Blaze: Outdoors in Thailand"–sorry to hear about your start problems–please keep growing/trying. I so enjoy the exotic equatorial locale outdoor grows–great info to be found along with, hopefully, great herb! Thank you and keep up the good work.

re: secondascent (S.A.)–"Highend Grow Report"–nice! Great pics and reports–thank you.

re: HawGods–"F13 @ Blueberry"–good luck with the grow and keep us posted! Thanks.

re: GentlemanFarmer–"GK outdoors @ 45 deg N ?????"–all of my strains love to grow outdoors. I am able to coax over ˝ lb. off of heavily-trimmed-for-stealth (under 4' tall but trained out to 9' wide!) girls @ 45 degrees North–with an ideal/prime harvest time of mid-October. I know of people getting 1 to 2 lb. per plant under ideal conditions as well. Thanks for the inquiry.

re: Capt. Crip–"Post your pics of Legends, DJ Short"–Capt. Crip, thank you for starting this thread. Thank you also for your contributions of photos, reports and kind words. Thanks to; timtim, SteelCitySensi, IckySticky, kanebosem, Milly, S_a_H, jake speed, jingles, Watson853, outdoordreams, Jeb, sirharrynuggz, trichomefarmer, subrob, SuperNuck, joe cool, Texas Kid, watermixer, The Iceman, RAGGA MON, eleda, great photos one and all. Special thanks and mention need to go to jasondub, fjallhoga, XyZ and GentlemanFarmer for the amazing photography and colors. I’m sure I must have missed someone, so sorry for that, but thank you one and all! Great job! Does me proud, indeed. Please keep up the good work.

re: secondascent–"Flo . . .Truly Signature"–beautiful dark-purple color, especially with the green contrast. Nice job, thank you. Please keep up the good work.

re: jasondub–"Delicious smelling Original BB (early flower pic)–nice! Another with great photography. Thank you and please keep up the good work.

re: Capt. Crip–"Blueberry..Blue Moonshine..Flo.....(grow)" Thank you for the thread, the pics and the kind words. Nice job.

re: SEEDYNONO–"SOL Sweet Blu (plus DP BB Grow Show),
HerbCultivator–"SWEET BLU . . .put your freak on!", and,
jingles–"djs joint ptoject blue sat"–looking good one and all. Thanks for the posts and photos and please keep up the good work.

re: Elevator Man–"Flo breeding Question"–thanks for the post. About backward hermaphrodites: 1. Yes, some (depending on their desirability) are good to use for breeding I have found. 2. Some may be sterile or produce non-viable seed (merely the way s/he goes) 3. Only the boy-to-girl ones are desired. Interesting story; awhile ago, during a r. & d. project back in the late 90's I had a lovely indica dominant individual–very symmetric, tight nodes with thick and sturdy hollow stems, large wide leaves, very blue undertones, nice fragrant floral palate developing on what I thought was a male. Two sets of pollen sacs formed on the sixth and seventh nodes and I put him back in veg to grow out a little and to attempt to make clones from. As time passed and the plant was put back into bud to coax some pollen, the rest of the plant sported female flowers! The plant was so pretty and desirable on so many levels I decided to keep her anyway. I flowered her out and hit her with some other pollen only to find out later that s/he was completely sterile–no seed at all. I hit her with three other pollen sources and none seemed to take. S/he would have made a great clone mother. Unfortunately, due mainly to space constraints, she did not clone successfully or re-green. Her bud was very nice–a true keeper–but she did not have the staying power necessary to survive. Another of those rare anomalies that come and go occasionally.

re: Mr. Alkaline–"Finest Freaks Thread"–thank you very much for starting this thread–very informative. Thanks to all who contributed as well.

re: organic1's photos of F13 in the "HOG" thread–very nice, indeed! Thank you and keep up the good work.

A big thank you also to Gypsy and Dutchgrown for providing the fun place to meet.

And finally, special mention needs to be made about the following four contributors and some of their threads:

re: redrider–"Colombian Grown Johnny Blaze"–Wow! A truly beautiful and informative thread that is very much appreciated. Thank you. You kool-katz who reside between 25 degrees North and South are the future hope for resurrecting the great strains of yore. Redrider, if possible please cross that Johnny Blaze with itself and grow out the progeny there near Santa Marta. Then simply keep selecting the best and crossing those for a few generations. Don’t even worry about structure or hermies, just focus on the finished product–the ones that ring the bell every time. Those wonderful genes are in there, they simply need to be coaxed out and expressed in the proper environment. Keep up the good work and please keep us posted of your progress.

re: Elevator Man–your starting of, and participating in, numerous threads is greatly appreciated. Your enthusiasm is inspiring, paralleled only by Mr. Alkaline. (Do you two know each other?–If memory serves you are both from the same general locale and seem to share similar passions.) Thank you for your presence and contributions. Looking forward to more. Please keep up the good work.

re: Mr. Alkaline–the "HOG thread"–again, Wow! What an amazing thread. Thank you so much for your contributions and presence here. I am working on a separate article in response to the HOG thread. Focusing on issues of structure that are relevant (as most structural phenomenon are not) such as calyx size and shape, various markings and coloration, etc. Also, I wanted to address the issue of location. Primarily, that although parts of Oaxaca possess true "sweet spot" status, it is none-the-less, a "New World" sweet spot. "New World" would refer to any cultivation zone established after the European conquest of the world, primarily the America’s. The reason I bring this up is because the original "sweet spots" were Himalayan. Nepal, Kashmir, Hindu Kush, Tibet, Burma and Highland Thailand and up the Brahmaputra and its drainage–these are where the origins of our beloved herb were selected from and developed. Nowhere on the planet is there a region with more tucked away, high elevation, tropical and sub-tropical potential sweet spots. Anyhow, I will hopefully have that article completed soon (my time soon, that is, so maybe within a month).

And last but not least:

re: XyZ–purple juice! Congratulations! Now you need to find the amethyst/purple bulbous gland heads. Look for the purple line markings on mature calyx–at the base and tip of the calyx the purple lines converge (this convergence of purple lines may also be found on the undersides of certain mature bract leaves as well)–there is where you may find the elusive purple thrichs. Purple in the resin is a rare and good thing methinks. When the Blue Satellite bubble was made, the ice-water actually turned purple! And that was some of the best hash I’ve experienced in awhile. Thank you for posting that–love your new avatar btw–and keep up the good work. Good luck finding the amethyst/purple heads.

Such is the latest. I would like to thank everyone for helping to keep the signal-to-noise ratio here tolerable. With dedication the likes of which I witness here, we will surely overgrow the world in due time. Please, keep up the good work.

Here’s a thought to ponder: The closest we have come to legalizing herb (here in the States anyhow) was back in the late 1970's–primarily 1977-‘79. We were so close–with many states decriminalizing herb and pushing for full legalization. I often speculate that the reason this happened was due in part to all of the truly great herb that was commercially and semi-commercially available at the time. The B.E.L. and similar organizations were busy around the globe producing, exporting, importing and distributing some of the most amazing smoke I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. This herb inspired and motivated many to stand up and speak truth to power. It inspired many to become more active, and as a result the laws began to change.

We are on the verge of another such progression. Some good herb is beginning to make its way to the masses again and a general public tolerance toward cannabis is increasing. But what we need now is for large amounts of truly great herb to make its way to the people. By "truly great herb" I refer to the experience inspired by the product–the magic it evokes. Such magic requires loving dedication to the craft. The information we are discovering (and re-discovering) here provides a path to that magic. Valid information is what we are after–it leads to knowledge, and those with relevant knowledge are more apt to be free, to be independent. This is what the corrupt leaders fear. This is what we must strive for–to overgrow the corrupt governments, to become independent via responsible, sustainable, self-sufficient means–to find freedom. Best luck and successes to you all in this endeavor.
Aloha!
A huge thank you to Red for taking the time and energy to post this for me and for all the good work he does. Thank you, good droog, your efforts are effective and appreciated--one of the most focused and productive people I know--plus always ready for the party! Please keep up the good work. I can see light toward the end of the tunnel--and I don't think it's a train! Hang in there bro, we shall overgrow! "One seed at a time." Comes a time, eh. Take care and have fun. May peace, love and prosperity fill your days.

ps–if anyone wishes to cut-and-paste any of the above responses to their corresponding thread, feel free.

Wow, great post dj. I'm really looking forward to the blueberry sativa and blue velvet releases and of course the new articles. I know you're busy and concerned with security. However, if you find the ability to contact me I would love to talk with you further with regards to some upcoming expeditions, articles and preservation projects including the hopeful resurrection of some of the more rare and boutique mexican lines.

Thank you red for assisting dj to communicate with us.

Thanks for posting DJ.

One opinion I have about the smoke back in the mid-70s was that most of the commerical was that available was from Sativa's(Mexico, Columbia, Thai).

Through the 90s and into today, the US market is buying more US and Canadian grown marijuana. The Canadian indoor production has been using the faster indica strains for obvious commerical reasons. To me this has dulled the senses of the US consumer and hurt the movement to repeal marijuana prohibition.

I am growing more sativa dominate plants for my enjoyment and sharing with others. I hope we see the commerical trend go back to the sativas for many reasons, one of them being the way that sativas help to open peoples minds to new ideas and thoughts and also, get them off the coach to become active in their local communities.

Well thanks to you too DJ - it's good to know we're all helping the project along nicely! And no, I'm sadly nowhere near Mr. Alkaline, being in the north of England myself - it does make me think we should attempt a meeting one day though...I need an excuse to come back to the US again...
Though I should mention that we've had California-style weather for most of April - truly insane!

And thanks for the tips on the backward hermaphrodite - there are definitely a few seeds growing out on this single bud, so they will be kept very very safe indeed! Also I have some male Thai clones rooting at the moment, and you can bet I'll be collecting plenty of pollen from those - I'm wondering how an indica-dom purple Flo might react to that...

Anyway, great to hear from you again, and glad all is well on the project - look forward to hearing about the new releases when they're ready.
