PCMI cards
Hi,
I got a PCMI card that works through 3G. When I check my ip address location at www.whatismyipaddress.com it sais my location is in texas. Now this is strange cause I am located outside of the u.s. and the card was bought outside the u.s. and my ISP is outside the us. I have disabled TOR. How safe are these PCMI cards? Why would my ip address be in texas? I checked other friends cards and one of them had an ip in california and the other also in tx. So I am sure i'm not the only one. Maybe all PCMI cards get routed to the U.S.? anyone else with this problem? Please inform. Peace |

Thats just where the WHOIS data says your IP address is registered to. Probably the gateway servers are located in those US states so your assigned IP address corresponds to that location, not your physical location. Sounds like a nice built in proxy you have there

This may sound like a dumb question to some. But here it goes:
What is a gateway server? Just checked my ip again and now it sais i'm in L.A. If it is a proxy server, the proxy owner can see everything I send or recieve from my connection right? |

Hard to say about the proxy server or whether they are even using a proxy server. I meant that if the IP is showing as being from somewhere else LEO would have a harder time pinpointing you if they wanted to. I have spoken with numerous ISP employees and I have never heard of any ISPs keeping logs of their customers web activity as a SOP.

Hmmm - let me guess.
Your ip starts with 192.168.x.x The ip you're seeing is a private network address - not a real internet ip. You are behind a router. ws |

www.whatismyipaddress.com wont return a 192.168.xx.xx number. It would return whatever the gateway servers or the routers IP is. Outside servers won't know what his internal private IP address is.

Use the ip lookup function at www.whatismyipaddress.com. Check 192.168.0.1. It comes up with this; Traceroute Tracing route to 192.168.0.1 Hop Time Host IP Location 1 18.509 wsip-70-183-59-1.oc.oc.cox.net 70.183.59.1 Irvine, CA, United States 2 27.092 rsmtdsrc02-gew03020996.rd.oc.cox.net 68.4.15.5 Irvine, CA, United States 3 15.993 ip68-4-14-109.oc.oc.cox.net 68.4.14.109 Irvine, CA, United States 4 29.413 ip68-4-14-242.oc.oc.cox.net 68.4.14.242 Irvine, CA, United States 5 42.16 wsip-64-58-133-134.oc.oc.cox.net 64.58.133.134 Dana Point, CA, United States ws |
