I hope it's ok for me to ask this here
Ok, this is going to sound stupid, I know. Please refrain from throwing things at me.
This question is for people who live or frequent The Netherlands: Once I get my children into college, if not sooner, I hope to be able to come and visit The Netherlands. (I promise to be a good guest and mind my manners.) If I had my way I'd move there, but I can't realistically see me getting my husband to go along with that. Whever I read about The Netherlands or think about buying my first 5 grams, I find myself getting all misty and homesick (homesick for a place I've never been ). I think that when that day comes, I'll probably cry from sheer joy, when I take my first non-criminal toke.So here's my question: Have you ever seen an American cry from joy when they first visit a coffee shop, or will I be the first? I told you it was a stupid question, but I had to ask it. Last edited by Stoney Mama; 04-29-2007 at 01:31 AM.. |

hello Stoney Mama,
crying from joy, no..... but enjoying a bong for the first time in a public place like a kid enjoys a new toy, yes! ![]() I remember we had a little chat, he was a nice middle-aged man from USA, and seemed very happy about his first purchase at the counter ![]() greetings, Picasso

Thanks for the responses to my silly question, folks. I appreciate it.
If you ever see an American woman all choked up with tears of joy, then, you'll know that I finally made it, so come and say Hello to old Stoney Mama! ![]() LOL at sackoweed, don't get too carried away! Remember to be a repectful guest. I've been reading that problems with "drug tourists" causing a nuisance for those who live there is a becoming a problem for the coffee shops by way of causing the government to consider restriction. Feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think a few might have closed down due to this.

Thanks, Zeno. You're very kind. I know I will enjoy my visit. It's the leaving part that's gonna be tough.

Stoney Mama, I hear what your saying. A close relative of mine was recently in the 'Dam for the first time and had the very same reaction you speak about. She told me she was all giddy and when she went into a coffee shop, looking over the offerings, she was, as she said, "constantly looking over her shoulder" and got all fidgetty at the liitlest sound. But, a smoke and 20 minutes later, she felt "at home". Hope you make it to Amerstdam sometime soon.

Thanks Old Fool. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one. I hope that I make it there soon too, and that I present myself as a positive representative of my country.
It makes me very sad to know that the behavior of previous tourists has left the Dutch with such a bad taste for tourists in their mouths. Why people cannot behave in someone else's home escapes me.
