Hello everyone, I am quite new to the scene, But this year I am venturing to the outdoors for my first try, I live in the southeastern united states, and have big expectations for this year, Im going to start them out in 5 gallon pots, then move them to 20 gallon size ones, just so they can get all the rootspace needed........Any tips or info would be more then appreciated....

Ok because of humidity your biggest concern is going to be mold . If possible you want them to flower at the time of year when the sun is the strongest in a breezy location with also as much intense sun as possible. Also you are going to want as strong of root growth as possible to allow your plants to get as large as possible and simultaneously increase the yield as much as possible. This situation calls for probiotics in both the root zone and the flowers. I strongly recommend mycorrhizal innoculant and foliar applications of a well aerated inoculated compost tea. I will explain further tonight.

There are several reason reason you want to provide beneficial bacteria as a foliar spray. First of all the beneficial bacteria consume resources that thre pathogens would also consume lessening the size of their niche. Secondly many times the plant cannot tell the difference between beneficials and pathogens so the plants immune defenses are activated lessening the ability of pathogens like mold and viruses to take hold. Third of all the beneficials emit toxins which kill pathogens.
Brewing compost teas is fairly easy. What you need is a 5 gallon jug, an acquarium bubbler, some high quality compost and preferably an innocculant. I don't know what kind of budget you're working with but I strongly recommend these products from gardens alive. Gardens alive is a pretty safe company to use as they don't advertise to cannabis growers while simultaneously producing very high quality organic products ranging from pet products, and household products but mostly focusing on garden supplies. Once you get on their mailing list they also send you a buy $25 get $25 free coupon every other month which is an added bonus. When used as directed the harpin protein really produces some amazing results. I've heard several different explanations for how it works. All I know is that it does. You need to mix it and wait about 30 minutes before spraying and then apply it quickly and open the package right before mixing. Then quickly seal up any unused portion of the package. Spray about once a month on a humid cloudy day starting about mid vegetative growth. If it rains within an hour after application reapply. Harpin Protein https://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=66484 I don't recommend buying the compost tea kit since all it is is a 5 gallon carboy and an aquarium bubbler which you can pick up at any walmart. However their compost tea is really good for an all inclusive tea. What you do is fill the carboy up with water and aerate for 24 hrs so all of the chlorine evaporates. Then you add the compost tea packet and aerate for 3 days making a nutrient and probiotic rich solution beneficial for pathogen resistance as a foliar spray and as a fertilizer/rhizosphere inoculant when applied to the root zone. Compost Tea https://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=8798 I've never used their soil innoculant personally but I assume it is good quality. I prefer plant success tablets available from most hydro stores/suppliers. Soil innoculant https://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=2612 Earthworm castings are also important in small ammounts for innoculating the soil. Plus you can add them to your compost tea before brewing to add further microbial populations. They sell them at gardens alive and the ones they sell are good quality but you can also find them elsewhere. |

Also with these plants its a good idea to top them at about the 3rd node. You will want ot veg them as long as possible but at the same time you're going to want them to flower while the sun is still really strong. You had said you're going to put them on a 24/0 cycle with occasional dark periods. The occasional dark periods really won't be necesary and may stress the plant toward hermaphroditism. If you use dark peridos use them daily and of the same amount every day or of incremental increasing length but 24/0 will be fine as long as you can veg them for 2 months + .
while the plants are seedlings I strongly recommend growing seedlings in just straight pro mix bx or sunshine mix in 16-24 oz plastic cups until they're about 5-7 nodes tall and feeding them a ph balanced liquid nutrient (consult the growers forum there should also be someone there to help you figure out where to find pro mix bx or sunshine mix depending on what part of the world you live) After the plants are ready to transplant you will have to mix a richer soil mix. With the soil mix I recommend using 7-8 parts premier pro mix bx or sunshine mix with 3-4 parts perlite and one part earthworm castings (gardens alive)or equal parts casting and gardeners gold brand compost (recommended also from gardens alive) You're going to want to make a rich soil mix since you wanted to limit the appilcation of liquid fertilizers to the root zone. For every 15 gallons of soil 1/2 lb garden plenty fertilizer (gardens alive) then add 1/2 lb kelp (gardens alive)add a 1 cup of dolomitic limestone (southern states/garden store)(don't use any type of limestone other than dolomitic) and mix in the soil innoculant (link above) per package instructions. |
