Some brown stuff on roots? with pics

Hey guys,
I have some brown stuff, not alot, but some that seems to be showing up in a couple of the buckets? should I be concerned? I pulled them out by their net pots, and could slide the brown stuff right off, so is there anything to worry about. I duct taped the buckets then foil taped them, except on top, do you think i should duct and foil tape on top as to not let light penetrate at all?

Basically if anyone knows what this stuff is, then let me know, thanks,

the p

I put about 5 ml of h. peroxide in there, maybe that will help.

A bit more info or pics would help us help you

Sounds like root rot. What temp is your water/solution kept at and do you feed with organic nutes?

I don't think it's root rot, normally the temps are below room temp. I am feeding ionic nutes until today, which my flora nova should be in.

But I have been feeding with ionic nutes, with cal-mag, and diamond nectar, and recently added some pure blend original into the mix. I foliar feed with supernova (very diluted) and diamond nectar.

Seriously I am working on getting a camera here to show you guys whats been going on. Hopefully this weekend sometime.

Hi protege, you definitely want to prevent ALL light entry into the bucket.

Foil tape the top (today!) or use heavy black vinyl (4-6 ml) available pretty cheaply at Home Depot to do the trick.

Touch it. If it feels slimy then it is probally root rot. It will sread very fast to. I used to treat it with SM-90. Some pics would help also. Sometimes your roots will be discolored by the nutes, which is ok.

proto......... What you probably see is just a color change due to the additives you are using. When I use Floralicious and even Liquid Karma......it will turn my roots brown.

Like Bigmo said.....if they feel really slimy....its root rot

other wise it is just the nutes and additives turning the color.

It happens to mine as well. Just be sure when you harvest to clean everything really good.

I don't know your room temperature and do you want help or not? You hope it isn't root rot and so do I but it is possible and so is the staining Bigmo mentioned. Considering the slime slid off the roots Mo and I might be right. Root Rot. If it is H2O2 is the immediate solution and then prevention...........Get a rez chiller or build one and eliminate the light getting in the root zone. PEACE and good growin Herb

Thanks herb and hog and everyone else,
Yeah, capt. told me how concentrated it was, I may be only doing about 3/4 a tbsp per 7 gallons, each bucket is 2 gallons, so i'd say about 1 mL per gallon or a little over, but not much.

Yes I hope it's not root rot either, but it could be. I immediately took the plants out and set them in a container. and lightproofed the tops of the buckets. THen I took each plant and ran them under the faucet for a good 1-2 minutes, and almost all of the brown came off. Then I added another 10 mL per 2 gallon bucket of hydrogen peroxide. So they are back in their solution.

For chilling the res, I usually put these little 6 oz water bottles in there and switch them twice a day, but hadn't done it for a couple of days because it seemed like they were staying cold enough. Just did it again, and will keep doing it now.

So, do you think it was root rot? should I add more h. peroxide? how much per gallon?

They are on their 3rd week. I think I have two different phenos of the ice plants, One is compact growth, I mean, working on it's 8th node and only about 3-3.5 inches right now. It also has a whole lot of branching, it branches then 3 more come off of it.
THen the other ice is short also, just not near as much branching.
And the lr/mk/lr is short, with minimal branching, but hasn't been getting the brown spots like the other two on the bottom leaves.

Ok, that's all I have. PLease respond, I really don't know if I handled it 100% correctly.

I would not add more peroxide. Too much will eat your roots.
What you did should be good. Did they feel slimmy?

Just keep an eye on them and resume normal nute regimen.

Let us know!!
