I was wondering what all you amsterdamers (and hollanders) like to do ?

For coffeshops- stay on the south side of town for local coffeshops. Media and yo-yo are great. Prices cant be beat either.

Sightseeing- go to the hortus botanicus gardens. Its awesome!

Dam square- Krapolski hotel as an alley next to it. In that alley is a place where this guy makes custom liquor and spirits. Open from 3-6 i think. Its awesome to have a drink there.

Voorburgwal . This is the street in front that runs in front of the A&H and leads to the train station. There is a bar called "Absinth" They have several kinds of absynth and other spirits. Nice place to chill. Lots of pillows and lounging.

you know why that is?

because it is kinda sour seeing the city you love so much being overflown with vaguelooking wannabe rasta types who can't handle the weed they buy here in coffeeshops.
you don't even wanna know the things you see here in tourist season, once, when i was smoking a nice spliff in the vondelpark (go there by the way) i saw 3 french tourist lying on top of eachother, covered in various colours of puke.

now, it's easy to call the dutch impolite to foreigners, but you don't have to see this kinda thing where you live

i'm not saying all tourist are like this, i'm not saying you are like this, but most are, and it's stuff like that that sometimes makes me wish we didn't even have the gedoogbeleid

Stoney Mama will become famous soon enough
As a potential tourist to your impressive country, I would like to apologize for the behavior of those who have come before me and to promise that I'll be on my best behavior should I be lucky enough to make it there before I die.

What's funny is that the vaguely looking rasta types can't handle the coffeshop weed... Last time I was there, so much time was taken up looking for something decent to smoke. I finally found some sage at da Dampkring that was passable, and the Sour Diesel at Rokerij was pretty good too (though a few days early on the harvest, imho)... The best I smoked last trip was grown by moppel...

Truth be known, I don't like to talk to other Americans much when I'm there... I go to holland to get away, and sitting in a coffeshop being pestered by an overly stoned stranger looking for a tour guide ain't getting away...

On a brighter note... I did enjoy the vibe in the shops much more without all the drunks...

grateful,
if your visiting amsterdam again, be sure to visit the pablow picasso coffeeshop just outside of the centraal station, they carry great weeds which may not be mindblowingly potent, but are sold at fair prices and all have a nice clean flavor.
their amnesia haze blew all of arjans ultra superduper hazes out of the water in my opinion, whats more, the shop is filled with friendly regulars (i'm one myself) and the dealers are always friendly, and never greedy.

hope to see you there one day

Hi,

Why do you want to go to Amsterdam, go to Eidnhoven, Rotterdam, Den-Haag or Maastricht/Valkenburg. There is a lot too see, it is not far, longest trip in Holland is about 3.5 hours by train. And ofcourse almost every city has a coffeeshop (not only Amsterdam) and allows you to smoke in public area's. And for instance in Maastricht or Valkenburg you can also make a trip by boat or visit cave's. We even have hills in this region!!!!

Peace
