Michigan mmj law reintroduced

https://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(qyravcjz3pgwfx45rysdvlnm))/mileg.aspx?page=getobject&obje ctname=2007-HB-4038

Current status has the bill in the Committee on Judiciary.

e-mails, calls and letters to members of that committee would be nice. That's what I'll be doing.

I'll provide lists when I find them:

Here's one list I'm working on now. It's a list of republican house members.
https://www.gophouse.com/Members/members.htm

I'll look up a list for the Committee on Judiciary.

The Democrats put out this resolution at their state convention on Feb 24, 2007:
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=53036

I've been sending e-mails to all of the Republicians.

I've been asking them if they stand with or against 80% of Michigan voters.
It seems logical that it only requires just a very few of them for this to pass.

Contact with one of the Senators

Quote:
Dear Mr. nut: (name changed to kinda protect me)

Thank you for contacting me with your concern with the marijuana being used for medicinal purposes. I appreciate hearing from you.

It is true that THC, the primary active chemical in marijuana, has been proved to be useful in treating some medical diagnoses. In fact, Marinol, an FDA-approved medication which contains synthetic THC, has been proven to be safe and effective in treating some cancer and AIDS patients and has been available by prescription since 1985. However, the delivery of THC by smoking marijuana has never been proven to be medically beneficial and, in fact, has been proven more likely to cause harm.

Clinical trials of smoked marijuana for therapy are currently underway through the National Institutes of Health. Meanwhile, the best available evidence points to the conclusion that the adverse effects of marijuana smoke almost certainly offset any possible benefit.

To date, the majority of our society is opposed to decriminalizing substances like marijuana and heron as the medical field continues to state that they are addictive, harmful, and without redeeming value. While it is true some jurisdictions have legalized the use of medical marijuana, it remains illegal under federal law, as well as the laws of the majority of the states. This simply means that, in those jurisdictions where it is legal, prosecution would occur at the federal level as opposed to the local or state level.

Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope this helps to clarify my stance on this subject matter. If you have any further questions regarding this or any other state matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. I always enjoy hearing from my constituents and do listen to their concerns.

Sincerely,

VALDE GARCIA

State Senator

District 22
My response

Quote:
Dear sir;

It's unfortunate that your information is so out of date.

The main reason that so few medical studies have been done is that the FDA and DEA have, in effect, banned all medical studies on marijuana.

I take that back .. studies have been allowed if their intended purpose is to show the dangers of smoking marijuana.

This is far from unbiased scientific studies.

At this time, medical studies are irrelivant.

Please understand this one item:

70% to 80% of the voters in your district think that a doctor should be able to prescribe marijuana if the doctor sees fit.

Is it your right to tell them "no?" Even if it is your "right" is it wise to do so?

These voters are not YET aware of your stand against them.

Another response to the Senator

I'm going to respond to just one of your points:

Marinol;

Marinol has proven that there are medical benefits to THC.
One of the main uses for this drug is anti nausea.

1)The inhailed form of THC starts working instantly. Marinol requires up to an hour before the pill breaks down and is absorbed.
2)Nausea can make it difficult to swallow a pill and keep it down.

Here are two examples of benefits of marijuana over Marinol that are currently being ignored by the propaganda specialists.

Add the NIDA to list and yes it seems the FDA has some explaining to do concerning one of their recent statements on MM.

Quite interesting whats going on reguarding Dr Craker and the HHS/NIH/NIDA lawsuit.

A good informational site about this.
