How to flush coco pre-harvest?

Hi there

I've heard conflicting things about the pre-harvest flush - especially re the time period.

I've heard everything from 4 days to 14 days suggested.

How do coco growers here flush before harvest?

If I'm hand watering every second day, should I flush every second day as well? What is the optimal time?

i say if you are ready for harvest flush them before their last week..

you should only need to flush them good once.. then you can water with plain ph'd water after that you don't need to flush them over and over.

yes that's right. one good flush to get that ec level right down. then plain water for the last 5 days, maybe stopping watering completely for the last 24 or 36 hours before harvest.

personally i water right up to harvest, but thats cause i use a drip system to water.

im not really a fan of plain water flushes can cause too much yellowing that if left can affect the taste of the bud when bud leaves also go yellow.. Im not a yield fanatic either but like to funnish bud to the fullest in flavor taste and quallity of smoke..

Maby organic nute feeds in last weeks could be the go to feed while removing any chem taste from chem ferts..

My prefured flush is 1.0ec to 1.3ec with no additives with only plain RO water on last 3 days..

5 days of plain water, are not enough time for the plant to suffer any ill effects, it's perfect to reduce the N levels in the plants and allow their own natural flavor and aroma to come out to the fullest. i agree that flushing for too long will not be beneficial. but a short flush is essential in coco, if you really want to get the best tasting buds you can out of it.

LOL sorry i should have read the question and not just the title before answering... Ill leave my comment tho as it might help someone

for my flushes I have a 5 gallon bucket I drilled holes in the bottom of and along the bottom outside edge of for draining, I put my new coco right out of its bag into the bucket and then put a running garden hose in the bucket also.... I let the water run through the coco for 20-30 min when I am done the EC of the coco is about .1-.2

OK - thanks. Today's the day then

And Ono Nagadin, I'm intending to reuse my coco so the 5 gall bucket with holes is a great idea for cleaning it up.

I hear what you're saying gaius but I don't flush in the typical way you're talking about - I don't flood the pots to flush them out. I just change out the water in my res and keep watering just like normal. I flush for 10-14 days - my plants take the first week or so to use up the residual chems that are left in the pot. The last 5-7 days of my preharvest flushes are when my plants begin to really lighten up. The ec of my RO water is 0.05 and the return from the pots never takes my res over 0.1 so I know the plants are using up what's left in the pots. Taste is kill...

I tried shorter flushes but they didn't clear all the N out flushing them the way I do it. And the way I'm doing it doesn't cause the bud size to suffer - as a matter of fact, it appears to me a slow depletion of ferts by the plant sometimes seems to signal the plant to beef up the buds but maybe I'm just dreaming, lol... at least this has been my experience, in my small grows -
