day 50
Hey there sorry about the lack of updates....all is well and after a nice hit of pk13-14 the plants are all now into the 1st of their 3 week flush....i am aiming to chop them down at 9 weeks.
The 4 in this tent (1 is in another tent). and some random shots The smell is a kinda musky and rancid with a hint of sweetness...nothing too noteworty but that may(and often does) improve as the plants are flushed and they ripen up. Peace Peace |

Hermaphrodite White Rhino
Having gotten to 8 weeks of flowering (with 2 weeks flush) i am sad to report that today i found hemi bananas on a plant as well as had mould problems with a couple buds that had bent over and lent on another part of the plant causing moisture to be retained on the bud and cause mold.
There are 3 visable hermi flowers that can been seen in these pics and there were several more on the rest of the plant....sadly my camera ran out of battery and i was not able to take many pics. ![]() ![]() This is a very sad development in the test grow and with no enviromental factors i can only presume the problem to be caused by the feminising of these seeds. More pics and detailed description/lowdown to come. Peace |

White Rhino harvest
Ok then here are the rest of the harvest pics....i had mould issues on 3 of the 5 plants and have so far found hermi bananas on 2 of the 3 i have trimmed so far.
Of the 5 plants 1 was a good yielder, 2 were average and 2 below average. So far i have smoked 1 and am happy with its potency but the taste is nothing that draws me back to it...when i smoke it i am mixing it with Cheese to give it flavour.....i am hopeful one of the others throws out some more interesting flavours. I will do a full smoke report soon. Peace |

Hi True, I did the DVP Rhino test grow, and I have to say that your's threw out far less naners on the naughty girls than they did. 2 showed heavily hermie traits at week 2 of flower. Although one was totally clean. Just a comparrison with the Rhino.

Rather than freak out and say that the WR hermed because of it being femmed, you should definitely grow out clones of the girls and see what they are like when they get a bit older. The type of herm expression you are seeing is fairly common in m/f seeds, too, so slow down a bit before concluding it's the fem process that is to blame.
There are a lot of misconceptions about hermies in general. I have seen hermies from both m/f seeds and femmed seeds over the years fall into 3 basic categories. They are listed below. Types of hermaphroditism (based upon experience): Type 1) Male "balls" appear at about 21 days after 12/12 is initiated, and stop developing by the end of week 4. These balls always appear along the main stem and at the base of branches, are very visible, and are NOT mixed within the larger blooms. This is usually temporary, and will usually not occur in the cuttings taken from this individual, which will be older and more hormonally stable. Keep an eye on these individuals and just pick off the balls as they develop. They are very easy to see. Type 2) Male "bananas" begin to appear at about 4 weeks of 12/12, and often/usually release viable pollen. These bananas appear mixed within the female flowers, but start at the place where the bud connects to the main stem. Usually entire flower clusters develop. They are often well hidden, mixed into the dense bud structure. They continue to develop (and drop pollen) through finishing. This is a 'true" hermie, and should be axed. This hermie trait WILL carry over to offspring. Don't grow out seeds resulting from these. Type 3) Male "bananas" appear starting around 6 weeks of 12/12, usually just a few interspersed on the tops of the main buds. These are easily visible as they are yellow and single-structured rather than an entire male flower cluster. (Hence the name "banana".) This is a fairly common type of hermie trait, and it is easily controllable by just doing a once-over with tweezers. Takes two minutes. Some of these plants are otherwise awesome individuals. The trait WILL carry over to offspring; these are not usually good breeders. This type also commonly results from stress; either from light leaks, high temperatures, chemical stress, or a combination thereof. It is up to you whether or not to axe these; subsequent cuttings will usually show the same trait. How extreme it gets (and how late it happens) determines whether or not to keep these clones. Usually it happens late enough in the cycle that no seeds have a chance to develop. |
