Soma's colorful plants???
soma or any one else for that matter, on another thread we were talking about colorful plant types. Someone suggesed soma seeds. But then everyone else said how come when you grow the seeds nobody is able to have it turn any color other than green. Even the lavender. Is there a trick to getting them to turn color? Phosphorus? Or does this trait not carry through. ive heard rock bud stays green too. Soma help us, what's the real story?
Thanks, mark |

I grew out Somas Somango, Buddhas Sister and Citrallah, the Somango and the BS were some of the most colorful flowering plants that I've ever seen.....

I think alot of Soma's colors come through due to his use of 100% organics in his planting/feeding regimin(sp). I had some Golden Skush get reddish/orange on the fans and some even carried over into the buds. That grow was started on chemical nutes (ran out of ferts) and finished with organic teas so it kinda suprised me to get any color at all. I have one going now that is at least 90% organic so I'm waiting to see the results. The skunk I have at 4 weeks is more pungent than the last one I had when it finished. Try organics in your methods if you don't already and see what happens.
Oh, I've also read that some color can be induced by lowering night time temps to around 60*F. Other than that, I believe color is a genetic thing. Hope this helps |

my experience on color is nutrient deficiency and low temps...
with that i accidentally made a skunk#1 (i think cause it was mixed iwth a bunch of other strains outside) look like a panama red... it was deep reddish color. I think colorful buds are part of genetics, but colorful plants are mostly what you do to them. There could be little genetics involved to give it the susceptibility to change colors. If grown normally with chemical ferts, all plants will be green. |

newbgrow- I'm going to have to ask what you meant by Grown Normally and state that I have gotten colors out of quite healthy plants using chemical ferts. The colors appear late in flower as a result of losing chlorophyll and increasing sugar levels in the leaves as the plant uses stored nutes and converts starches coupled with cooler fall temps. Just like trees leaves. If you think genes have little to do with it grow some Blue Satellite. Try using molasses in small amounts on your first few Final Flush waterings on any strain and your chances for colors increase as well.

Hi Soma,
Just bought your Haze Heaven. Is the HH likely to show some color? Anything else you can advise me on will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |
