400w cabinet grow

I edited this original thread, that was titled "entertainment center plans w/speakers," because I kinda got sidetracked, and decided to turn this into my grow diary. Still doing the entertainment center, so I'll keep it updated.

Let me first start by giving a big "thank you" to every one on this site for all of the useful info, definitly has helped me along the way.

On that train of thought, I figured I'd post up the plans for my new cab. I currently am growing out of a similar style entertainment center, with seperate veg/flower chambers built in. Has a 400w hps on top chamber growing mazar, hashplant, afghani, and some widow, and T5s in the bottom for veg/clones. I have been building the cab up as my plants have needed, but now I'm at a standstill, and my cab just isn't cutting it, especially in an apartment.

Here's the general layout of the cab design broken down, which I've already started working on. I'll throw some follow up pics later in this post, to kind of "explain this as I go."

The middle cabinet is going to be strictly flower, as I will be building a seperate veg/clone cab. I was going to do another "all in one" cab, but have always had problems controlling my temps/humidity, especially with the ballast getting so hot, and the lack of cool air coming in to my closet. The smaller boxes to the left and right are actually speakers that have been hollowed out, but the mesh face will stay for stealthness. The speaker to our left will basically be exhaust, and the speaker to our right will be an intake. With the speakers out, I am left with a pretty good amount of room to toy around with. Exhaust speaker will hold the ballast and the fan. The plug going from the light to the ballast will go through the 6" ducting to the speaker, then through the ducting to the ballast, basically to hide the cable and free up some clutter. I have a 4" fan that I'm thinking for using as my intake, or I may just leave it open to the air. Just keep in mind that the whole speaker face will "open" but I will be able to allow as much air flow as I want, through the black mesh screens.

Now moving on...

This whole setup is going to be in my bedroom, with my flatscreen TV in front, blocking the whole room, which will pull out as one giant door. The bottom two "doors" are just going to be glued on. The speakers themselves will be bolted to the entertainment center, with 6" ducts, which will help add to the "stealth" of the cab.

Hope some of you all were able to get some ideas from this or anything. I'll be posting up pics as I go, and I'll try to snap some pics of my current setup.

Any advice, suggestions, anything is welcome

Now I'm going to sit back and flame up some more AK

Here's the speaker to our left, which is going to be the "exhaust" speaker box. Keep in mind that the speakers and internals were removed, leaving just the shell of the speaker, and the mesh face to hide the hardware.

This first pic is the speaker when the mesh face is on. Notice the wire coming out of the exhaust port, this is connecting the ballast and the bulb.

Heres a shot of what it should look like with the mesh face open. Now I wasn't too careful about the sizing, seeing as how I'm using MSpaint, so the ballast/fan are a little smaller, just to help give an idea of what I'm going for.

I'm also going to incorporate two small 4" speakers in each speakerbox, so I can actually have my stereo on whenever I want. Also should help cover up some noise a little, and makes it like any other speaker

Both speakers will actually be bolted to the side of the entertainment center, so that I can directly attach the intake/exhaust, without having to steal room from my flower cab.

I'd like a few ideas for the intake speaker box, and what you guys would do. I'm thinking about just leaving it open with the mesh, which would still be super easy to controll temps with. Also have an extra 4" fan I might use

Anywho, thats all for now, I'll throw up some more pics as I go, and keep this thread updated. Just need to grab a few shots of my garden now

Thanks

You don't even need the flatscreen, any entertainment center, wardrobe, or other cabinets would work. Hell, even a stereo cab would work, just as long as you can keep it locked of course ;-)

But yeah, you should definitly do it, I'd be more then happy to draw you up some plans similar to what I did. I could even help you draw them down to the inch, just show me what you have, and we'll figure out a way to make it work

im working with very limited space, 1 br apt, and im trying to figure out where i can even put it for max stealth/security, there isnt a lot of furniture upstairs(its a loft, and so the whole upstairs is open) and the closets arent too ideal, but it cant be too big and out of place as i will have parents/friends over every now and then.

problem is any large piece of furniture would stick out a lot im thinking.

i do know that i want to run a 400w jobber, still trying to decide on magnetic or digital ballasts.

ive seen digis for $200 and magnetic for 50, but i dont want to have a noisy ass ballasts and i have no idea how quiet/reliable the cheap 400's are.

Looks cool

The filter might work better if it were inline with the exhaust
