What do you do with your runoff?
The thing that tears me up about coco is that runoff that I paid good money for.
I currently have my pots on top of a rubbermaid and there is a 1/2" hole collecting the runoff for every 4 pots. Every Saturday, I adjust the pH and EC of what has collected from the week. I use use half for my house plants and half to water the ladies. Sunday is the pH adjusted water flush in case there are any odd nute ratios left over from the res. Am I being cheap here? What do you do with your runoff? Last edited by JackKerouac; 02-02-2007 at 02:15 AM.. |

Thats what I do also, either in soil or when I am running my bubbler.
When I change the water or use the run of, it all goes in to the garden or the house plants. In winter it goes in the toilet. |

hey jack i reuse my run off but not coz i'm being cheap lol, its not to save nute b coz its got good micro-organisms in it thats built up in the media, u cant buy that stuff, but it also has toxins in it so i put the run off in a bucket and add some zym to deal with the shit and use it to make nutes up bout 2 days later.
ok i admit it, i'm cheap

well heres my take, a lot of the time the run off is safe to reuse, i know this because i have been recirculating the nutrient solution in my grow for ages. it does no harm what so ever. you in fact get an accumulation of good guys in the nutrient solution. when i do a flush to get salt levels down, then i will throw away the run off, as it gets the salt out quicker. but after that i go back to recirculating the nutes. that small amount that runs back to my main tank through a stocking, doesn't effect the tank much, not enough to cause problems if you are not over doing it with the nutes.
the reason canna tells you to dump the run off, is because they advise such a high nutrient dosage. which means it's safer to dump the run off, but very wasteful imo. |
