Security
Hello all! This is my first post on ICMag, hope to be a grower soon! First of all I would like to discuss security. I read somewhere that I should be using Firefox, Privoxy and Tor. Am I safe using this software, and if so, how safe? Anything else I should be using/doing?

hey whats up, im new as well. i would suggest firefox, only because its more convenient in that u can tab-browse and all that. About the security, i believe that all marijuana-affilated sites are secure b/c u dont have to give any info, just your email address and all that. Anyway, welcome to the forums and ill be looking forward to your grow journal! C YEA

The new IE has tabbed browsing as well, actually a bit better than Firefox IMHO. I am concerned about my IP being traceable.

Use (go download) firefox as your browser instead of internet explorer, AOL, etc.(firefox.com) and do this:
https://cafe.elharo.com/privacy/priva...rs-in-firefox/ Firefox is great, should be much faster. I read somewhere it is not connected to your hard drive in any way, but other browser's are (or something like that). And it is not a bad idea to have one of these on file, obviously for last resort: https://dban.sourceforge.net Wipes your drive smooth and clean. Credit must be given where credit is due... these links came from the ICmag member 'clowntown' (click for profile) in his signiture. Very good info, and a great person to ask advice from. I think any grower that decides to join a site and post things such as pictures and even give/take advice must realize that there is always a risk, and by doing so adds risk to your current situation. That risk level is gauged by how safe you are... what leo (feds) is looking for... the info your already giving him ect, ect. In other words if the feds wants your IP badly enough, they can get it. So don't give them a reason to want it. But none of this will dispute the fact that there is always a risk. It is those who recognize that fact, that are the ones that don't get caught. My best advice? Use common sense. ![]() As I always say... security, while possibly penetrable, is more of a matter of how deep you make them dig. Last edited by Me$$iah; 01-25-2007 at 09:26 AM.. |

Messiah, I really appreciate your input. If I'm not mistaken, ICM servers are in Amsterdam. Obviously if a member compromises his/her own identity here they could be caught. Other than that, really the only way for LEO to track a member is if they hack a server. Am I correct? Then, this is where Firefox comes into play to hide the link between yourself and ICM? I am new to this, however, security is the most important issue and I want to know what is going on.
Maybe another question could be: ICM MEMBERS - What is your greatest security concern with ICM? Sorry if I'm stressing security but as I read from another member.... Paranoia is not productive but carelessness is suicide.
