The Millennium Seed Bank

There's one thing about the people from the UK, they do love their parks, flowers, botanical wonders and the like. Recently we discovered one of these places, called The Millinium Seed Bank, which is part of Wakehurst Place and which houses seeds from all over the world.

Gypsy and I went to visit and see just what this seed bank was all about and if they had any seed samples of cannabis. Given the fact that cannabis is derived from seed, it seems only natural that they would have some samples there.

It was a Sunday, so none of the laboratories were open when we visited, but we were able to take many photographs. We did not see any cannabis there...at least not yet. There was one very large greenhouse used for experiments and testing, but it was not open to the public....maybe there's in fact some cannabis in there? LOL Especially given the fact that one of the major contributors to this project is GlaxoSmithKline (pharmaceutical company).

This place is huge and encompasses thousands of acres of natural walks with fine specimens of flowers.

Let's get started with your inside view of the largest most comprehensive seed bank in the world....The Millinium Seed Bank.

We could see through the many glass windows that lined the laboratories...like these seeds awaiting cleaning which came from Kenya.

There's so much modern technology with DNA mapping etc....perhaps in the future cannabis can be researched on this level....probably already is, we just don't hear about it.

Thats pretty cool....

Wow, D.G.! Wish I could visit that place. Although you said you two didnt see any cannabis seeds, it still would be pretty cool to see the seeds of the world. I always love seeing pictures of lands that I have never been too. Ive been coast to coast in America, down to Mexico (several times), and up to Canada (once), but Ive never been across seas. Here in San Francisco, we also enjoy our parks, which are some of the most beautiful in the world IMHO. I hope you dont mind me posting a few pics of Golden Gate Park, but I just want you and others to see what Im talking about. If I have nothing to do, and wanna go and relax, take in the sites, and smoke a jay, I go to GG park, or maybe a pier and just puff and relax, and just stare out at the bay and bay bridge. Very relaxing! L.V.

Thanks LV...looking at your pic of GG park....wow, I can remember that park and what it looked like in the early 70's...full of 'Pot Smoking....Acid Tripping....Hippies' who had a message of peace and love....not war. Oddly we're back at the same spot, but with less movement of the masses than before, or so it aure seems.

If the seed bank been open, there would have been someone to make an inquiry about their possible cannabis seed stock. I know Gypsy plans to take them some if they don't have any This is supposed to be a seed bank that doesn't have biases based on what the plant is socially used for, but rather just because it exists...is a plant...reproduces by seed....they are the worldwide seed bank...so ????

They certainly give new meaning to saying....I've stored my seeds in the freezer:p

Looks like they've got plenty of funds budgeted for such a world wide project...

And just look at this....I can sure see there's one specific plant not even mentioned...........that's gotta get changed Especially after the newest release of information by the British about the positive effects of cannabis documented with it's shrinking brain tumors.

Since GlaxoSmithKline are involved....there's medicinal cannabis research/DNA mapping already going on....IMVHO.

Hmmm...is this really a level playing field? Is cannabis not any different than any other plant grown for medicinal qualities?

Defanitly not a level playing field. It can't be different than all other seeds researched for medicinal use or any other use for that matter. It deserves at least the same research that all other seeds get.
Why is it that "The powers that be" fight so hard against legalization of cannabis? What is it, that they don't want everyone to know?
That it has benefits? That it can be used to make life more tolerable for many with different ailments? That it is not the harmful drug that they have presented it to be?
What is it that they are so afraid of?
That they are wrong?

hmm..
