International Canna'Community Cookbook Appetizers/Snacks/Beverages

With your permission I hope Mrs Babba, Boink...

Slipton Citrus Green Tea

makes 1 Gallon

12 green tea bags (single cup size)
2 Oranges Juiced (1 cup)
¾ cup sugar
¼ cup honey
Water

Take 2 cups water heat to almost boiling; add tea bags, cover, and let seep for 15-30 minutes (I like it strong I do 30) In your pitcher add your sugar/honey pour in tea without the bags: add cold water and top off with the juice, refrigerate. Best when it sets overnight, gives it time to blend. Stir before serving.

Can't wait for some sun for a solar batch...

My daughter in-law was buying over 24 bottles a week on that pre-made kind; this cost well over half as much and she says it tastes better.

I like to take a dual packet of Swiss Miss Marshmallow Lover's hot chocolate (the stuff that comes with the extra packet of marshmallows) and toss both the cocoa & extra marshmallows in a mug.

Then I scoop a serving of Mocha Cappuncino mix---use the brand you like---which is usually 3 teaspoons, into the same mug. Then you just pour in the water, and stir.

It's very simple, but it makes a damn good, very rich drink. It's especially great during the colder parts of winter.

Mocha and Mr. French's Hot Chocolate

Mocha

To a cup of good coffee add 2TBS powdered milk stir, then add 1 oz Chocolate wait for a minute for it to melt then stir again and serve. If you drink your coffee with sugar you might "need" more sugar. We wake & bake with this...

2 kisses or 2 pieces from a big bar is about 1 oz. That Belgium stuff that S-MART(Clams choice brand) sells is good.
"That's right... Shop smart, shop S-Mart"

Mr. Frenchs Hot Chocolate

1/2 cup powdered milk in a mug add almost boiling water stir add 1 oz chocolate wait a minute stir and serve. On "A Family Affair" Mr. French used a can of evaporated milk and a "Name Brand" big bar.

When visiting Greece years ago the first place we stopped was Thessaloniki. Walking around the city we noticed everyone was drinking these dark colored drinks with a head. Of course we had to have one and mistakenly ordered Greek coffee, which is actually turkish coffee. They boil their grinds with the coffee and serve it with the coffee grinds in the bottom of your cup. We realized of course we had ordered the wrong thing but I drank it anyway. That was a mistake. Anyway we finally figured out it was a Greek frappe they were drinking and we were hooked. When I got back to the states I had to continue drinking Greek frappe's. So I found a Greek online market and ordered Greek instant nescafe which is what the Greeks use. Drop some raw sugar in the bottom of your glass with this recipe and your ready to go. I use a small canning jar for a shaker, perfect size and I seem to have many of those. I loved Greece very much. The weather was great, food fantastic and it's people in most cases very gracious. To Greece

Greek Frappé

Servings: 1

Note: Because they dissolve well in cold liquids, imported Nescafé instant coffees are best for this recipe. Although they are slightly different, both Nescafé Classic, imported from Greece (available at Papa Cristo's in Los Angeles and Greek House Importing in Downey and Greek internet markets), and Nescafé Clasico, imported from Mexico and available at grocery stores.

1 rounded teaspoon instant coffee

2 teaspoons sugar (I use 3 or 4)

1/2 cup or more cold water,

divided

1/4 cup evaporated milk or regular milk

1. Place the coffee, sugar and one-fourth cup water in a shaker, jar or blender. Cover and shake well for 30 seconds, or blend for 10 seconds in the blender, to produce a thick foam.

2. Slowly pour the coffee mixture down the sides into a tall (14-ounce) glass half-filled with ice. Add the milk, pouring down the side of the glass (so as not to dispel the foam), and top off with about one-fourth to one-third cup cold water to fill the glass.

3. Don't forget to put raw sugar in the bottom it goes so well!

Thessaloniki is the capitol and second largest city in Greece and is right next to the port. Thessaloniki was the second most important city of the Byzantine Empire next to Constantinople. It was first established in 316 BC by Kassandros and named after his wife Thessaloniki, she was the half sister of Alexander the Great. As we found out, it is now the cradle of modern Greece with some very popular resturants and ouzeries. You will find many ruins from the Roman and Byzantine era's. The picture is called the White Tower and is now a museum but was once used for torture and enprisonment. We took a train from Thessaloniki to Athens and it stands as a highlight of our time in Greece.

They say you can deepfry anything

Coffee and doughnuts for everyone...

Powdered Heaven

Makes 10

about 1/2 cup sugar (any/every kind)
1 can buttermilk biscuits, regular sized (Grands will not work)
deepfryer heated to 300

put sugar in a small bowl. drop biscuits in oil flipping them when bottom turns golden, about 2-3 minutes on each side. shake fryed buscuits in sugar to cover and eat.

These are those powdered doughnuts at Chinese buffet restaurants. I like giving them a little oval shape before frying. Orange zest in the sugar is my favorite.

Bunuelos (yummy little Mexican treat!)

2 cups flour
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
6 tbsp milk
2 tbsp melted butter
Oil (I use vegetable oil) for frying
Cinnamon/sugar

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. In small bowl, beat eggs; add milk and melted butter.
Add egg mixture to flour mixture; stir with fork until holds together.

Turn dough to lightly floured surface. Knead 3-5 minutes. Cover dough with bowl for about 20 minutes.

Heat oil to about 350 degrees; 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep.

Divide dough into 12 balls. Roll each one out on floured surface to 4 inches round. Drop rounds 2 or 3 at a time until lightly brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes.

Drain on paper towel and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar while still hot.

Yields: 12
I used to make these every day. My older brother took a bunch to work once several years ago, and I ended up making 300 or so each night so he could take them to work every day. I did that for about a month til I said, "Fuck it. This is getting expensive, either he starts charging, or I quit making enough to feed an army!"
Bunuelos are by far one of the easiest and tastiest snack/desert foods to make. Honestly, once you make a batch, you're hooked, and you don't have to be Mexican to love them

Dammit, now I want some....All I need's flour and baking powder.....

Fer What Ails Ya', Arrrrrr!!

A variety of citrus beverages and folk remedies.
----------------------------
The hot toddy; basic drink for colds, flus, and cold evenings.

1 jigger decent whiskey (not bourbon, fer' christssakes)

1 jigger or so of lemon juice

Desired amount of honey (the bee stuff, as opposed to your significant other....)

Add hot water, and stir 'til the honey dissolves.

Sip, and figure out which flu bug or virus yer' gonna' tell yer boss you've contracted..
______________________________ _________________

Fer' When the Kids Are Sick

(or simply for a plain old healthy hot Winter beverage)
------------------------------

Add desired amouts of lemon and honey to very hot water, preferably making it sufficiently both tart and sweet. Sprinkle with cinamon. Serve in mugs.
______________________________ ________________

Margaritas the natural way...
--------------------------------

1-1/2 jiggers decent tequila

1 jigger curacao

1 jigger triple sec

1 to 1-1/2 jiggers lime juice

1/2 jigger lemon juice

6 ice cubes (or so)

If placing the ingredients in a blender, you can add a tbsp or so of corn syrup or other sweetener, otherwise, if simply serving over 'the rocks,' don't use thick syrups, as they're more difficult to properly dissolve.

These are potent; the above mix is for 1 drink, and if you drink 2 of these, you likely won't pass a breathalyzer. You may not pass it even after just 1 of them. **Be warned. Always have a drivenated designator.

The dangerous part of this drink is that if you're craving citrus, as some of us do, and a cold drink goes down fast due to thirst in general, it's easy to become impaired very quickly.

But you'll likely not get scurvy, and that's worth most other risks you might take!! ;^>)

Don't let ANYBODY watch you make this !!!

For the winers at your party...

Dog Bite

About 1 gallon/10-12 servings

2 bottles MD 20/20 (white and/or Orange) 20% by volume stuff
1 can frozen white grape juice
1 2 liter carbonated water
1 each Orange, Lime, lemon sliced thin

In a gallon jug, mix everything but water, chill untill the party is ready to start (aleast a hour). In a punch bowl add water and fruit mix. just like any punch stir as it's served. doubles and triples, after that just start cutting down on the fruit.

A REAL wine cooler and with the "Mad Dog" it still got a kick @ 10% unlike that 4% store bought stuff. That store stuff is a flavored "beer" not wine anywayz.

Just as long as NOBODY knows what you put in it they'll groove on it. Tell them the next day or week.
