Bat Guano locking coco / killing plants

Had the problem recently where only guano was applied to pure coco with a bit of lime. But it was too much guano and everything went droopy after 2 weeks(lockout). Barely learned that coco with holds calcium and then magnesium, and the PH was fine at 5.5 to 6.0 for a soilless medium such as coco. Just wanted to do an organic grow with pure coco and guanos. Now I see the ease of pre-bottled coco nutes like Canna A / B, even though those are not organic. Wanted organic, so will look into bio canna even though not specifically labeled for coco grows. Some have said it will work in pure coco.

the trouble is that it's very difficult to try and give them what they need in coco with only guano or worm castings. that stuff is really not ideal for coco imo. but i wish you luck, maybe you can make it work. if you have over 60% coco in the mix then a ph of 6.0 is ideal. that is what the coco is normally buffered at.

peace

Does anyone know of a better coco than Botanicare, that does not have to be flushed also. [/QUOTE]

Alot of guys I know are switching from Botanicare to Crop Circles AKA Profit Disks.. Requires no Prior flushing to using, just add water to expand the pucks..

I have been told it adds even more air to the roots as its alot more coarse.. I am thinking a 50/50 mix with the Bontanicare coco would take the cake..

I ordered my 1st bag yesterday... I will report back with findings...

Looks like this is what happened:
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.p...ght=coco+guano

As posted by Suby:
"Well you've come to the right place, I had a 50page thread on organics and coco on Og and I must say I was only slightly better off than you are.

Here is the gist of what's fucking up in your grow, coco is a shit medium for a guano grow.
It initially releases K bound up in it matrix (K+) then gets bumped for Mg+2 ans Ca+2 which then get bound in the matrix.
Canna ferts are designed for coco and you'll see they are very high in K and in Ca and Mg, these 3 elements are the trickiest elements to get into your soil throughout the grow so if I had to guess your def. was calcium and to a lesser extent magnesium.
While coco buffers very well, almost too well, it takes on the ph of the fert solution too quickly that's why humic acids are in the Canna stuff to buffer the ph.
Dolomite lime would have helped for ph and Ca and Mg, using calcified seaweed gets plants extra Ca but can be tricky to find.
Nutrient profiles for coco are best suited to all in one ferts and usually not the 100% organic kind, a blend like PBPro with the CalMag formula added will yield very good results but not 100% organic.

What else can I say, been there, done that....i'm back to Promix HP.
If you want I used to blend some coco in my soil for porosity and aeration but peat has it's place and is completely reusable, even more so then coco as coc gets very fine and it's quality is very limited past 2 grows.

Suby"

That pretty much sums it up for me, coco is not that great for purely organic grows. More of an add in or you could use the home and garden organic coco line. Looks like there are'nt any all natural non man made fertilizers that would be optimal for coco? Don't mind topping off micronutrients with seaweed, mollasses, and calmag (EDTA=bad) lastly if need be. Looking for an alternative to the iron, ferrous sulphate appears promising as well as iron protienate. The Ful-Mag gives great magnesium.

So in short, this last guano mix did not work out:

10-20% guano
80-90% coco

+liquid micro's- never even got to use them, plants straight wilted from major lockout. Guano was planned as the main fertilizer, big mistake.

And in summary, coco is best used as an ammendment when going all organic.

If someone knows how to do an organic coco grow please tell.

Some folks claim guano works well in coco...others say no...I wish we knew for sure
I don't think I've seen a documented organic grow in coco (excluding liquid nutes)

My folks add the liquid bloom guano during flower along with the rest of the canna line of nutrients with a drip system. Some of the best lookin tree I ever seen.

im doing an all organic coco grow. check it out in the organic soil forum. I haven't got it perfect but the plants are pretty healthy and growing fast. I think i am seeing a slight mag def. but I think i can rectify it.
