Seed shipping/storage question for Mike

Mike,
I want to order seeds and it is Winter where I live so it's cold and snowing...

I was wondering if this would effect the quality of my seeds in any way? Or the germination rate or anything...

Also I am wondering why a seed would be cracked? I read somewhere that if the seed freezes the water inside expands, could this have caused the crack? If so, would this effect any of the other seeds?

Lastly, What is the best way to store seeds for a long period of time? I am not talking 5 or 10 years, more like a couple months to a year at most.

Thanks

I have mine in double plastic bags inside a twist top plastic container - all 3 containers are somewhat airtight - and that in a fridge.

I should add rice as a dessecant (sp?)

after a little thought, the winter cold shouldnt hurt it because they say to store them in a refrigerator for long term use anyway... so cool... lol dont have to worry bout that

Main thing is not to have your post lying outside in a mail box when it's freezing.
Seeds should be stored in a fridge but never in the freezer.

Ooops. Following the mainstream advice, I have kept my Hashberry, Sahdu and Satori seeds in the freezer, airtight and with dissecant for almost 2 months. I hope they are still viable. Whay a shame if I ruined them. Soon I will see.

Thanks for your reply, Keeko. I will start them in about 2 weeks, so I hope I am lucky. All the best.

Im sure they will be okay, they couldn't have been in there for more than a couple months right?

Edit: I just read your 1st reply, they should be fine - just under 2 months isnt that long at all. and mandala makes good fresh seeds
