NGB style stealth dresser

So I'm looking for advice and opinions on this idea. I'd really like the negative feedback just as much as the positive because I'd rather take care of the problems with this setup before I have it built.

The dresser I will purchase is 42"Hx30"Wx16"D. You can see the rough dimensions of the rest from the picture. Basically I am dividing this into a veg section on the lower left, a flower section on the right, a carbon scrubber section for a removable tray of carbon (2" thick) sliding on the rails you can see on the middle upper left, and a utility section with a panasonic whisper fan (80cfm model) rated at about 24 dB on the top. THis section will hold the reflector which will be a DIY aluminum hood with sealed glass (probably from picture frame glass). the hood will be cooled from outside air coming directly in passing through a 4" round darkroom lighttrap through a short straight tube into the hood. on the left of the hood you can see the 4" round outlet which will be attached to dryer ducting, which will make a 180 degree bend before going up and over the reflector, making another 90 degree bend, and exiting through the 4" round hole on the right of the hood with an 80mm pc fan (20-30cfm) pulling the air through and out.

The main fan, the panasonic whisper 80cfm fan rated at about 24 dB, will pull through a tray of 2" thick carbon and exhaust into the utility box, which will be lined with some sort of sound absorbing material. THe air going through this exhaust will cool the outside of the hood and will cool the ballast for the 150w HPS I will be using. The air will finally exhaust through a 9"Wx4"H rectangular hole in the back of the dresser. If the air does not flow through this well, I have sized it so that I may insert 2 PC fans

My lighting will consist of a 150w HPS in the flower compartment in a sealed DIY aluminum hood with sealed glass. I will be adjusting the height of the plant containers instead of adjusting the height of the light.
The veg lighting will consit of 2-4 26W cfls most likely, depending on how many clones I need to pump out.

The flower compartment will be 17-1/2"Hx 30"Wx14"D.
The veg compartment will be 10-1/4"Wx19-1/4"Hx14"D.

One problem with the air flow is that the intake for flower comes through from the veg compartment, and it enters the flower compartment right below where the exhaust hole is. To remedy this, I thought about running a length of dryer ducting from the holes, around the outside edge of the cab (on the inside of the cab) around to the opposite side (the right) so that the air had to flow across.

I am looking for any and all (non-troller) advice, criticism, improvement ideas, etc, negative just as much or more than positive. I really want to know how you guys and girls think this will work.

just click on the image to enlarge it. I'll try to get up a few more angles of it just to give some different perspectives

i think that you have a pretty good idea of whats going on. instead of whatever it is you are trying to do with your lamp, build a simple cool tube. you can use a pyrex bake-a-round or a candle cover from hobby lobby (search is your best friend)

higher cfm fan for the cooling of the light, you cant get too much airflow over these HPS bulbs, especially in small spaces.

just make sure you have plenty of airflow in the cab too. expect temps in the 80s

mushupork5: yea, i agree on the cooltube and i am leaning that way. I found a thread on here where another member posted a link with all kinds of lengths for cooltube-like glass. My bake-a-round tube is 18 inches long so thats a little large for the space I have (if you take into account 10 inches needed (5 on each side) for the ducting coming off either end of the cooltube. I am probably going to try to go with and 8 or 10 inch tube that is 4"D if I decide to go this route. My biggest flaws that I see in my design right now are the intakes, the carbon filter, and the cooling of the top section. I know thats a lot, but it could all use a lot of work/fresh ideas. Im thinking of going with a cylindrical carbon filter (pro style?) instead of my tray style flat filter idea. I'm also wondering if I can get a 4" vortex fan with a speed controller lowering it to half speed to be as quiet as the panasonic whisper fan I have designed in there now which is supposed to be about 25dB (.4 sones) and move 80sfm. The reason I want to do this is that the panasonic takes up a huge amount of space in proportion to the rest of the cab and I'd kinda like to have a dimensionally smaller fan.

there are some really powerful fans out there for the cheaps. i bought a 120v, 243cfm, 7" "pc type" fan for $50. you can fold over the ducting and it will still work, albeit cfms cut down.

instead of a carbon filter there is this odor gel stuff that is supposed to work pretty well. in a small space, i figure why not try it and if it starts to smell then go carbon. or shit, ozium makes a smell purifying CFL bulb, just pop that in a desk lamp near the cab!
