they've been 'out of the soil' ?
maybe that explains the slow growth

sorry, was smoking a blunt when i wrote that. i used the paper towel to soil method. never had that problem with the pure senegalese landrace sativas and others i grew but these nls are slow as hell. if it was the other plants they would be on their 4-6 leafsef by now..

do they look healthy and green? that seems like really slow growth. either way i suggest you start a few more to avoid 2 male's.

Ive grown nirvana nl before under 5 20w floro half and half cool/ warm. It was actually a pretty fast growing strain, the fastests I had in the garden at that time. I was also surprised how a few of them leaned to the sativa side.... Give us some more info on ur grow, lighting, temps, soil type, etc, all things could be slowing you down.

Hey jaypee89, sm0kateer4204, ECUG

This is the first plant, it came out on the 13th of dec. bout 2.5 wks old now.

this is the second, it came out on the 15th of dec. bout 2 weeks old now.

Setup:

This is the setup im using right now.. its a temporary 35cm/14in H, 45cm/18in L 15cm/6in W that i made while the main box is been built.
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=43105.

it has an area of 0.75ft and houses 2x26w + 2x18w for 88w of cool CFL. that gives me 117w/sqft.the temps are more or less constant at 27*C/75F?. the soil is soil i got from my garden which was thourougly cleaned, sifted, and had sand added to it for drainage. the only other thing i added was a bit of wood ash. the soil has no nutes in it at all.

the thing thats puzzling me is that they look green and healthy, their root system is goin strong (can see a couple 2in long roots on the side of the container and on the bottom.) but the top is going no where!!!!

cheers..

your lights are way way too far away.
put your plats on top of something to rasise them so the tops are an inch or so from the lights

yupyup, lights are too far away, need to be a couple of inches fromt the top.
the speed of growth seems normal, its never as fast as you want it to be :(

also can i see one of the seed leaves going brown ?

This is a problem. Not only are you asking for a pest, disease, mold, mildew, etc problem by using outdoor soil but you said it yourself, "the soil has no nutes in it at all".

Transplant into some quality organic soil, Foxfarm Ocean Forest is a recommended soil, ammended with dolomite lime for PH buffer and about 35% perlite for good drainage and aeration of roots, get a good fertilizer grow/bloom/micronutrient system going (foxfarm, Advanced nutrients, Biobizz, etc), follow bottles directions (except cut dosage in 1/2 until you know how the plants handle it) and search for all the info you can on feeding and nutrients. It is a large subject.

You see fine growing green seedlings, I see 1 starting to pale from deficiency (mostly Nitrogen) and the other with browning due to nute deficiency as well. This will only get worse.

Seedlings benefit from some extra phosphorus (1/4 strength bloom formula) once at the beginning to help roots grow, but mostly they will need nitrogen. Lack of nitrogen is the cause of the slow growth.

When they do start growing they will stetch tall, thin and weak if the light is too weak/far away. Like the others said, move the plants up to the lights. Home depot sells 27W 6500K daylight cfls that emit a cool blue/white and will help keep those plants short and squat for fat buds.

Smokey, that's the second set and the growing tip that's browning. Not good.
