Selecting hashberry mother.
... that is. I was wondering what trait i should look for when selecting a Hashberry mother. Do i need to take clones and wait the end of the flowering period to select the best ones, or i can spot the good mother before i harvest ?
Thx for the answers. |

Well im no expert but heres my 2 cents...
First, make sure the plant is female. You can do this by pre-flowering it. Meaning, put the plant into flowering (12/12 light) when it is 1 foot tall, within 1 week it will show signs of sex. If it's female, put it back into vegging (18/12 light), if it's male - throw it out or use it for pollen w/e u want. Then, just make sure the phenotype of the plant is the one you want. A indica strain CAN and WILL have a sativa phenotype. The phenotype will determine the size of the plant, bushiness, the high from the buds, the density of the buds, etc... the flavor... etc The best way to do is to grow out a bunch of 1 strain, and let them all flower and finish. And then put them into regrowth (you simple cut above the bottom branch leaving some leaves and then put the plant under 24 hours light, it will start growing again. This way you can sample the buds from all the different phenotypes, and see the yields, and then select the best mother - after testing each 1 ![]() But if you cant do this... np just make sure its female and the structure u want, and take cuttings. Any hashberry plant will be good if grown right, its damn good genetics! |

Slaythe, if you flower them out then you know exactly what to expect. The downside of regenerating a harvested plant is that it can be exhausted by then, this can happen especially in soil grows with smaller pots. Also, if some unexpected accident occurs, you could loose the plant before making your back-up. To counteract this you should keep an eye out for your favourite plant during mid-flowering: around 35-40 days. By that time you can spot desirable traits like best resin output, etc. Then you should take a cutting from the lowest branches, which are still fresh and quickest to reveg. Another option is to reveg the entire plant and trim off the bud material once new shoot growth starts. This will give you a vigorous and healthy mother.
The second method is to veg the plants till you can cut quality shoots from each . Then flower the donor plant and after harvest decide which cutting(s) you want to grow out as a mother. Cheers, Mike
