Beancounter's PAKI IBL testing/breeding thread..

Hello Bub, and all the fine folks that visit the Hill Temple Forum

I thought I'd start a thread up here in the test grow section for OG Bub's unreleased PAKI IBL, since it's the 1st grow I've seen of it..

I also wanted to use this thread to document the preservation of this line, since it's almost been lost since Bub's bust

I had 40 beans to work with, and I started 5 to start out with, as I didnt' have room for more at the time but wanted to see what this line had to offer.. I also will be returning some of these beans to Bub, but I will still have 30-32, which should be more than enough to preserve the line.

As soon as I have more space i'll be starting a bunch more of these, at least 10-15.. As I go thru the seeds I have I'll cull any of the longer flowering (as per bub's suggestion for selection) phenos and any problemed plants.. I hope to end up with 5-10 nice fems and 5-10 nice males once i've finished growing out my 30ish beans, then i will do a open pollination run with all the keepers..

So that's my plans on this project in a nutshell.. Of course there will be more details as phenos and an variation shows as far as what i'm selecting for..

Let me describe the PAKI IBL from 5 seeds as I know it so far..

She's a beautiful plant, slower growing, loves nutes, HUGE fan leaves, lotsa roots.. It shares alot of generic terms in common with Deep Chunk, yet it's still quite different.

For those who are interested when i start my next PAKI IBL seeds I will also start some Deep Chunk at the exact same time, for a side by side comparo.

Anyways, the plant branches slightly better than DC, but stll has probs getting light down to the branches.. It's a very fleshy plant, and isn't the easiest cloner. It seems to top a lil better than DC from what i can tell from the vegging males that I topped.

When rubbed she gives off a typical Afghan/PAKI dankness, but more piney scent than DC, less coffee, more floral.. But I have yet to flower PAKI.

So far all the plants have been very stable. There's some slight variance in node spacing, petoile length, leaf size, but all 5 plants looks the same from a few feet back.. Definately fits the IBL moniker so far, compared to all other IBLs i've grown.

Here's 3 of the 5 seedlings in early veg..

At this point I got 2 fems and 3 males, the topped males are chilling, I may cull the 1 male that doesn't smell as strong/good soon, i will test flower them to be sure before i cull anything..

Here's one of the females, the 2 fems are virtualy twins, so there's no need for pics of both, plus it's hard to get them outa veg, they're so wide.. I'm not sure but i think the PAKI IBL can rival DC for leaf size, that's why i want to do a side by side from seed with both..

thank T2U, stay tuned, this should be fairly stocked full of PAKI pics by the time i'm done with the project.

I also wanted to say that my title looks a little weird, and I don't want it to be taken the wrong way or have any confusion arise.. These PAKI IBLs are OG Bub's/Hill Temple's work, not mine, i've just been lucky enough to aquire enough of these that I feel confident in properly preserving this line, as it needs to be preserved..

Coming soon to the Hill Temple Collective Test Grow section will be a thread on Hill Temple Indica, an old stabilized afghani hybrid. This is another line I will be 'preserving', but with only 12 beans instead. Altho IMHO not enough for a proper ful scale preservation project, still better than nothing, and from glasspackedbowl's initial feedback on the females it's definately something worth keeping around..

The next Hill Temple Collective preservation projects I will undertake is Bub's famed unreleased Nepali Hash Plant IBL line, Deep Chunk (already in progress), Sunshine IBL, and possibly Hill Temple Skunk IBL..

For the NHP IBL I will have 50 beans to start with, after returning 8-10 to Bub I will have aprox 40-42 beans to work with, this should be a fun and excellent project.. Ever since I heard CBF say that the NHP was his favorite OG Bub work I knew i'd love her, so I'm honored for the chance to even grow these, let alone have the chance to preserve such a line..

For Deep Chunk I will have a mix of sources, something similar to how bub originaly continued the line, but on a narrower scale.. I have 16 of Bub's original beans, 1 keeper fem selected from a pack of Bub's beans, 2 males from a pack of Tom's beans, and about 20-30 beans from my keeper fem X male (from TH's), and a few 100 beans made from selected plants from 40 of Bub's beans... I will start some of each, all of Bub's 16 all at once, so look for similarities and differences..

For Sunshine IBL I have 4 packs of Bub originals, and a possible 5th pack later.. I look forward to this one as Bub says it's one of his best.. But I'd love to know more about the taste/flavor of this line before i start.

For the HT Skunk IBL i will have 4-5 packs to work with..

So I should have more than enough of each line (besides the Hill Temple Indica) to keep them alive and diverse as possible, keeping them as good breeding stock for the future..

This list in one of the reason I am such a HUGE fan of Bub and his work.. I can't think of another breeder out there that focuses on IBLs and maintaining such a good breeding stock as much as he does.. not even close.. and to me that scream integrity and a love for the plant..

thanks for stopping by folks Whatever you got there TH that's a nice looking indica, i'd grow it

I decided to transplant the girls today, so I snapped a few shots, with a tape measure for some scale.. The tape measure is pulled out to 21", plus 3" of tape measure is 2' total. They grow wider than they does tall as you can see.

They're in 6" square pots at this point in the pics, and they just went into 2gal pots, and they already look too big for the pots..lol The root growth wasn't quite as crazy as DC.

I used the tape to measure a few points on the plants, the fan leaves are about 10" long, with the main finger maxing out at 8" long and 2" wide so far. Actualy these plants have maintained a 2" width from pretty much the 1st set of fans.. Both fems are still looking like twins, more variation in the males..

BTW these are all shoplight grown, I imagine they'd be much larger grown under HID from the start.

PAKI IBL after 7 weeks veg:
