First grow (PC case)
Hello
(This is my first post on this forum, please go easy on me :P) In the begging of the new year, im gonna start my first grow op Im gonna use a Full Tower PC case (the extra tall ones) as the grow 'room' for the plants Im gonna use Lowryder (or Lowryder 2 depending on what the seed banks have in stock) as the strain to grow, mainly for its compactness (from a guide i read it says it wont grow over 16", which is plenty of room in the case) Ive seen a few threads in this forum on PC case grows and i was wondering if some of the people who have done it before could give some advice. Inside the case i was planning to gut it all out then seal any gaps up (for smell issues and so i can control the inside environment better), except for a gap at the front for a 120mm PC case fan as intake, and the hole where the power supply would go as the outtake fan with carbon filter, and id run the power cable in there too. The following issues are what i need a bit of help on from people who have grown before (this will be my first time) Smell If i only grow 1 (maybe 2) plants inside the case which is air tight, and the outtake fan has a carbon filter attached to remove all the smell, and i have a timer air freshener near the end of the outtake fan tube, do you think that it will not smell much (or not at all even)? If not what other measures could i take to remove the smell. I would have thought that such a small plant (and espcialy since theres only 1) wouldnt smell that much Lights Right, this is the bit im stuck on. Im really not sure which wattage/which type of light to use. I was gonna put a 250w HPS in there but ive heard it may generate wayyyy to much heat for such a small area. I dont want a too weak light as i want to get as much as possible out of the plants Equip This was the sort of equipment (minus the lights) i was gonna use. I was gonna use this as the outtake fan/carbon filter (https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hydroponics-fa...em220060730498) but i dont know if its too overkill for such a small op For generating CO2, there was a recipe i saw (i think on this forum) for making a homemade generator out of yeast and sugar which would be sufficient for inside the case Also, with the Lowryder strain, it says Autoflowering which i guess means that it skips out the veg stage and goes practicaly from seed to flowering, so which sort of cycle would i need to use with the timer for the light? Any help, ideas, tips etc would be very appreciated Thanks guys

ideas look great man! also, i wouldnt get stuck on lowryders only cause of the height issue. with proper training, many strains would fit just fine in your case. for the intake, 120mm fan might be a little overkill. im using one as my exhaust fan for a cab about twice the size of yours and it works great. an 80 or 92mm should do just fine. check out those threads pothead82 posted, great info in there!

I would use compact fluoros in a area that small, unless you have an aircooled light, or some type of super airflow. In that small of a space Id go no bigger than a 70 watt HPS.

Hi, using an intake fan could cause you problems with smell if the outtake can't keep up, then you will effectively pressurise the interior of case and unless it is 100% airtight you will be forcing smell ridden air out.
That outtake fan looks ideal as you will need a lot of airflow to keep the case cool if you have an ambient temperature of above say 20C. And finally, the 4" carbon filters and fans are pretty big in comparison to a pc case so you may need to think about ducting out from the case to a seperate box containing the filter and fan. Hope this helps.

What do you use for odor control?
Would Carbon Filters for Cat Litter Boxes over the fans be good? Along with a small negative ion generator and odor killer gel in the case? |

hey man
I would recommend passive intake and active exhaust. It works best. check this thread https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=48949 for my thread on making a micro carbon scrubber using net pots. Other designs can be found in the DIY-Link-O-Rama in my sig wattage - if you can get the ballast outside I think a 70 or even a 100 could work. -suga

I agree with sugabear I am very happy with the results from an active exhaust and passive intake, though I might add another fan for an intake to make sure fresh air flowing in and not straining the exhaust fan too much
