Talking First grow using Red's DIY Grow Tub

Hello fellow growers!

Welcome to my home away from home. So pull up a chair and enjoy the grow! I am here to learn from you guys, and I figure that I might as well post all my short comings so that I and maybe you guys can learn from my mistakes. About a month ago I was building a computer pc build and that just didn't work out for me. Couldn't get the temp down enough to even start to grow. Then I came upon
Red_Greenery's Handyman's DIY Grow Tub
the growing tube bible if there is such a thing this would be it.
So one day went to Wally World, and Lowes, and picked up everything that I needed to make such a wonderful box.

Here is my box.

I must say this is a something special. A box that is almost made out of duct tape you got to love it. It probably cost me around $175.

So now that I have a great box like this I need seeds. So I went to the Seed Boutique and bought some seeds. I was very nervous about ordering seeds but things came true great! They did a great job in getting the seeds here really quickly to and great stealth I must say! Thanks!

Here are my seeds.

So as a first time grower what should I grow first? What do you guys think. Please let me know. I am thinking of starting them off tomorrow. So you guys have tonight to let me know which you guys think would be the best to grow.

FM4-Northern Light (4 seeds)

And my freebie was South African Durban Poison X Skunk #1 By Sam the Skunkman

NRS - Northern Lights 5 X BigBud (10 seeds)

Ok that’s it for tonight. Hope you guys will be following my grow. And lets hope that it is something worth writing home about!

Germ my Seeds!

Hey guys!

Ok today is the big day for my seeds. I have chosen NRS - Northern Lights 5 X BigBud (10 seeds). The mean reason is I have 10 seeds so if I kill one of these babies I won't be to upset. (yeah right!) I don't want to use the fem seeds or the high quality freebie. So Northern Light 5x BigBud it is going to be.

Since I have never Germ any seeds before I did lots of research on how to do this. I am going to follow DurbanPoison way of DIY - Germ your Beans For Dummies....

Germ my seeds the DurbanPoison way!

Equipment:

Gather the Equipment:
2 Plastic Pot Water Runoff Catchers
2 Paper Towels

Step 1 -

Fold up one of the paper towels as shown into a quarter. First in half long ways and then in half again. Then put the paper towel in the catcher.

Step 2 -

Place the beans on the paper towel.

Step 3 -

Fold up the other paper towel just like the first and put it on top to essentially 'sandwich' the beans between the paper towels.

Step 4 -

Fill up the water catcher with fresh tap water. Completely saturate the towels.

Step 5 -

Drain off any excess water that the towels didn't get soaked up in the towel. Do not ring out the towels - leave them soaked.

Step 6 -

Stack the other water catcher on the top. It will basically be used like a lid to keep in the moisture.

You're done! Now put it in a dark area @ 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Or perhaps but it on your computer monitor or maybe in the garage cabinet. Somewhere nice and warm, preferably dark. You should have radical/tails within 24-48 hours. Enjoy!
Well there you have it, thanks for everyone that did this before it makes my life a lot easier, or so I hope. Will check back in about 24-48 hours to show you guys updated pictures.

Happy growing!

Hey, looking good, make sure to share this in the lodge too, please.

Also those South African DP x SK1 are a bitch to germ, I only had one taproot show and it died of helmet head(killed it performing a seed-shell removal procedure after a week or so without it coming off,) so don't be discouraged if the freebies don't want to germinate for you.

Don't tell me that! Oh well, maybe I will have a little better luck with them. But probably not. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for stopping by!

They're from old stock, great breeder, the seeds are just old, I have a buddy from the shroomery tho who says he got 4 to sprout.
I tried scraping the ridge with sandpaper, some lightly scraped with a razor blade etc... but I could only get one to sprout, which I lost.

Hey Flutch - looking good! I see you've used the reflective insulation, your's is the 1st image I've seen with it used - it looks really great! I see mods for my growtubs in the future for sure. I also like what you did w/ recessing your net pots - I bet that would work well with soil, also.

I look forward to watching your grow - good luck ta ya!!

SuperZero - lets just hope that I might be able to just get one to sprouth. But right now I have my hands full with my first grow, so I should not get ahead of my self!

I2KanGrow - Thanks for stopping by, yeah I have all ready lots of ideas on how to change my grow box so it doesn't look all like that. My first thing would probably put in some dark room vents where my big 4" elbows are.

Dont count on that freebie. I got 0 of 10. Good luck. Ask for help if you need it.

Place good seeds in some distilled water in a small cup. Allow to soak for 12 hours. Now put them in a soilless mix without any ferts. Only lime and gypsum. See my signature below for directions on soilless mixes. Plant 1/4 inch deep in your really wet soil mix. Use the remainder of your distilled water to really wet the soil before inserting the seed. Cover lightly and carefully with soil over the seed in its new hole. It should no longer be visible. Spray soil down with water to settle the soil. Dont spray so hard it disturbs the depth of the seed. Place in 75 to 90 degree temperatures. It may be helpful to cover your small 16 ounce or so size containers with clear plastic wrap to retain moisture and not allow the soil to dry out. When sprouts begin to appear, quickly remove wrap. Place 1 to 2 inches away from florescent tube lights 20-40 watts per square foot. A mixture of warm white and cool white bulbs works well but cool white by itself can be used in a pinch. Shop lights work well. When seedlings get their first true leaves not the first unserrated leaves or coyledons, apply a very gentle dose of complete fertilizer like 20-20-20. Maybe 1/4 teaspoon per gallon. Now they are growing.
