? about bagseed
O.K., i was just trying to figure out.....why does bagseed supposedly go hermie more often than seed bought from a distributor? It just doesn't make sense to me as they're both pollenated the same way, just one's pollenated on purpose, and the other's often not.
There's only 2 possible reasons I can think of that could explain this. 1) its an F2 - but! lots of seed companies sell F2's (ie. C-99 F2 from GN collection) or, 2) because most of the people who grow bagseed are newbies who have limited knowledge on growing this plant. any feedback would be appreciated! thanx,TH

I with number 2
Plus, bagseed is rarely sexed and is just openly fertilized/pollinated in the fields so it's a grabbag of genetics and sexes alot of the times Tex |

hmm...
well i have grown bag seed many times. only once that i remember that i had some shity one or two plants. the way i look at it is i try to keep the seeds from the best bud. mexican or not its all good to me. if not hemp i like it. you never know what you gonna get back but thats how it goes with bag seed. i still grow it with my bank seeds. here is a pure bag seed from New England Peace [IMG] [/IMG]

awesome
thanx for the replies u guys, im thinking the bag seed = hermies thing is just a myth, it just doesn't make sense to me. The most likely reason is poor growing conditions for the plants.TH

quite often bag seed is seed that is made by a hermie plant, that's why they go hermie so much.... most folks tend to get rid of their males when they grow, therefore i just assume that any seed i find in a sac of dank is a hermie seed, unless i'm told otherwise by the person who i get it from.
once a hermie always a hermie. hermie parents = hermie children. bagseed can be saweeet, and it can be the ultimate waste of time... your choice... but personally i will NEVER run bagseed EVER again in my room, because it'll just end up going hermie after i spend 3 or so months working with it. /me grumbles something about hermie strawberry cough. bagseed = hermie is definately not a myth.... kind of extreme to say it that way, but myself, i've never grown bagseed without finding at least 1 hermie in the bunch, and more commonly all of them. i suppose though, like TK said, in SOME cases, mostly that of commercial brick import smoke.... plants are open field grown without male removal.... so, that being said, schwag seeds are more likely to be a male + female seed, where as dank indoor grown nuggies tend to have the hermie seeds.

I agree with everyone here. Most of the time bagseed isn't that great to start off with. I had a friend of mine start a grow of bagseed not to long ago. At the same time I gave him some LSD to try along side of it. The LSD just put the bagseed to same. I wouldn't even waste my time with bagseed unless that's all ya got. If so I have tons of Shunk #1's that I would be more than willing to give ya. Better than bagseed.

i had a great bagseed strawberry cough plant goin , produced 1 hell of a mother (or so i thought) uber smoke, incredible smell, but i took 5 cuttings and threw them into flower when they were ready, and every last one of them went hermie on me..... grown in the same conditions as the mother.
dunno... imo bagseed is a waste. and like Dallas1% says, just about everyone on this board probably has loads of skunk #1 seeds laying around.... if anyone wants some non-bag seed to start with for free, just ask around i know there are a number of folks that would be willing to send some out for ya. I should be recieving some of Capt Crip's genetics soon, and also have some clones coming in as well... So my li'l ones are probably not long for this world... {But don't tell them just yet. They're a great set of Learning Tools! }
