92-Year-Old Killed As Police Burst Into Her Home
92-Year-Old Killed As Police Burst Into Her Home
Niece Says Woman 'Gunned Down Like Dog' ATLANTA -- A 92-year-old is dead in what her family called a case of mistaken identity. Was it the right address? Police said yes. But neighbors and relatives of the elderly woman shot to death by police said they believe there must have been a mistake. Police said the woman, identified by relatives as Kathryn Johnston, was shot to death after she wounded three plainclothes officers trying to serve a drug warrant at her house The woman's niece, Sarah Dozier, said that she bought her elderly aunt a gun to protect herself and that her aunt had a permit for the gun. Relatives said they believe Johnston opened fire because she was frightened by the officers, who were not in uniform, barging into her home. Her relatives said Johnston had lived in the house for about 17 years. "They kicked her door down talking about drugs, there's no drugs in that house. And they realize now, they've got the wrong house," Dozier said. "I'm mad as hell." Officials said they had the correct house and that the warrant they had was legal. Dozier said there were never any drugs at the house. She said the woman probably "panicked" when police forced their way into the home. She accused police of shooting her aunt down "like a dog." Dozier said she bought the house for her aunt and installed bars on the window to protect the elderly woman. Atlanta Police Asst. Chief Alan Dreher said at a news conference Wednesday that an undercover officer made a drug purchase at Johnston's address late Tuesday afternoon from a male suspect. Officers were able to obtain a search warrant after that. Dreher said as the officers were executing the search warrant, the officers announced themselves and then forced open the door. Officials said the warrant was a "No Knock" warrant -- meaning that the officers did not knock before forcing open the door, but they did announce themselves. Dreher said the officers had a legal warrant before they forced open the door. He said they were justified in returning fire when they were fired upon. Dreher said as soon as the officers forced open the door, Johnston shot at the officers and the officers returned fire to protect themselves. One officer was shot 3 times -- once in the leg, on the side of the face and once in his bulletproof vest. One officer was hit in the leg and another hit in their arm. The plainclothes Atlanta Police officers were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. All are expected to recover. All officers are on paid administrative leave pending an investigation -- as is common. Officials said they have not made any arrests in the case and they have not located the male suspect. Dreher said suspected narcotics were recovered from the home but police are awaiting lab results to confirm that. Dreher said a marked patrol vehicle was parked in front of the residence and the word "Police" was written across the front and back of the narcotics team's vests. He also said only a matter of minutes passed between when officers arrived at the scene and when they forced open the door. Dreher referred to the incident as a, "tragic and unfortunate incident." https://www.nbc5i.com/news/10379029/d...411222006&ts=H

MARK my words, these assholes are going to get a medal for getting hurt and doing their duty. Even though they where totally wrong. I truely feel sorry for the family of the grandmother. My grandmother is the same age and if that shit happen to her. Those asshole better hide for the rest of their lives. They should have did a better job of their recon. They first, should have made sure the male was in the house and at the address. Before doing any type of OP. This is very sad and i hope the family sue's the hell out of the police department.
Take care, BG |

^Exactly moose.
I mean to live 92 years on this planet and be gunned downed like that at the end of your life, all in the name of "drugs". How can those cops live with themselves? I just do not get why the cops cannot put themselves in the shoes of an innocent person being invaded during a "no knock". I mean watch the show cops, they come to the door, yell police ONCE, and barge in immediately. If that happened where I live I wouldn't hear the word police because of the way my structure is built, all I would see is people barging in with guns. Is it so "unreasonable" to believe that an "average" citizen won't shoot back in that situation? The ironic thing is, wasn't the second amendment put in the constitution to protect citizens against exactly this sort of police invasion of the home? When you look at the standards for being a cop, IQ is not real high on the list. Some, not all, have found a home in the police force that allows them to have control over people that they would never have in any other job. Others are adreniline junkies who are not happy unless the atmosphere is tense, and often do things to make it more tense. Many cops get a feeling of power when they wear a badge and esp. a gun. I have met some that I wouldn't trust with a pair of tweezers, much less a weapon.Fortunately, many cops are good people who genuinely want to help, but are brainwashed by their superiors and peers. Congress and Judges have taken our rights away and increased to power of the police to dangereous levels. Most cannot handle the power as they do not accept the responsibility that goes along with it. Lest anyone believe that I am just a cop-hater, my childrens life-long friend was a cop, and my son-in-law is a cop. Time will tell what kind he is.

Wow yeah...i bet she could hardly see anyway. Im amazed she got some shots in. Glad she did tho. What bastards!!! ''isolated incidents'' like these should always be followed by a very very loud public demonstration. But thats not gonna happen is it ?

The War on Drugs causes way more suffering and destruction than drugs themselves. And all in the name of 'protecting' people from themselves.
If you're interested in staying informed, I highly recommend https://www.drugwarrant.com which, according to it's intro: "There's a war going on. It destroys lives and families, spawns violence, suspends civil liberties, tramples on the infirm, locks up millions of peaceful citizens, costs billions, and subjugates reason with fear. This blog looks at the front lines of the drug war, with news, analysis, and the occasional rant." Check it out, comment over there and support Pete in his great work in informing people of the insanity of Prohibition. |

That is a very sick story. I would think if someone had bought drugs there, they would have known an elderly woman lived there. Lying bastards. Someone needs to be relieved of their duty right now. One case of buying drugs is not worthy of a no knock warrant regardless. Whatever Judge signed a no knock warrant based on 1 single drug sale should be sued also....
