first grow, semi-stealthy 70W hps

Hi!

First of all, a thank you to all the icmag residents whose posts I've been reading for oh so many hours during the last weeks. This place is really a treasure chest of information.

So, I'm currently doing my first grow. I've built a 12"x16"x24" cabinet that resides in a slightly larger "normal" cabinet that can be closed for total visual stealth - temperatures might become a problem if it's closed for too long, as the carbon scrubber into which the exhaust fan blows resides in the larger cabinet. Fortunately, closing it is only necessary if I have guests, which does not happen too often.

The fan is a normal computer case fan. The light is a 70W HPS.

On to the plants. The smaller plant is from a bagseed (germinated on 11/1) while the second plant is a female Shiva Skunk I got from a hydro grower (transplanted on 11/9). I'm scrogging because maximizing yield is obviously a necessity in such a confined space.

The plants are on their fourth day of 12/12. I decided on starting to flower early because because I was afraid that my cabinet would get too crowded later on.

I have fed them once about a week ago with a 6-2-4 veg fert. From the next feeding on (which I will do the next time I water them), I will use 23-24-29 bloom fert. I plan on buying a PK fert too - I'll mix that with the bloom fert, right? When is the right time to start doing this?

I've already taking a clone from the female that's awaiting its destiny in my fridge. I plan on starting to root it about a week before harvest. But that's still a long way off

The female has had some problems before I got her and there have been some slight problems during the first week after I transplanted her. Now, she appears to be fine. The seedling seems to be well too - I topped it very early, right after the first node (thank you for that Lazy Growing thread GMT ), which worked out great, and it has stretched a lot to reach the screen, which is fine be me because everything under the screen gets trimmed away anyways.

Now, on to some pictures:

I would appreciate any commentary! Do my plants look alright? Is there anything I haven't thought of yet? I'll try to update this thread regularly with my progress.

I just finished a 70w Grow. what you should do is remove the screen you have now and get a bigger one and grow the plants to be like 2 feet tall and you will get like 3x more bud than you will if you flower any time soon with a small screen like that.

bridgestoner: I am doing some LST: I trained the secondary stems of the female to the main stem to get them to the screen faster. Maybe next grow I'll ditch the screen and see what I can do with topping and LST.

nidebr: Unfortunately, my screen is as big as possible - it fills the whole box horizontally. Also, I can't grow 2 feet plants because my whole cab is 2 feet tall and then I wouldn't have any space for the light. I'll see how much space there will be between the screen and the lights when the plants are done growing and will consider raising the screen for my next grow. Thanks for the input!

Also, did you take any pics of your grow? How many plants did you grow? How much did you yield?

Ya I yielded like a 1/4 oz but thats because of the short veg period. I will have much higher yield next grow ill just veg longer.

Nice setup and grow, nidebr!

If I can yield 1/4 oz of nice bud from these plants (or rather this plant, the bagseed appears to be male - in a few days I'll know for sure), I'll be perfectly happy
