First Grow Diary: bagseed, 168w cfl *pics*
hello fellow micro growers, this is my first ever grow and am startin off small and stealth. 168 watts of cfls is used for flower, 84 watts for seedlings and vegging. got some decent bagseed so am starting with that just to test the waters and try a few things out. the cab is a simple cabinet from walmart that measures about 31"(H)x27"(W)x16"(D) which houses 4 plants as of now. for ventilation, a 120mm fan (forget cfm but i think around 50? idk) and then 2 2" pvc elbows for passive intakes. might be doing more but temps have been ok (~75F). yes i know, more reflectix is coming, only had enough for 1 roll and it wasnt enough. right wall and ceiling still needs it. im sure this thing will be always changing. most recent pics of the cab:
as you can see im trying 2 styles, 5.7L rubbermaid for SWC and just handwatering in 1 gallon pots. started the seedlings in small rockwool cubes and then put in with tiny rockwool cubes. the roots seem to be loving the rockwool as expected. the 2 SWC plants were just FIM'ed yesterday and the right 2 were LST'ed. here they are ~12 days from seed and last night, 2nd day of 12/12: had a little oops when i FIM'ed the front swc, snipped a small branch. will it grow back ok? 2 SWC: 2 handwatered my favorite as of right now: ill keep you guys updated in this thread from now on. let me know what yall think! That's a badass cab. I love your setup! Good luck and I'll definately be watching. I just started a bag seed grow myself, but I'm down to one plant now. 8 (

i cant really tell by scale, but it defidentally looks like you can move those CFLs down closer. nice setup though, i like
just dont go crazy, CFLs arent as cool as everyone says. i find within 1 inch way too close, even with the smaller 23w bulbs |

dudes ... i never realized that cfls get that hot . my vegging cab is 4 x 23w and i just went and checked ...yep, they are fairly hot to the touch. i can see why some people go with the longer tubes; much cooler . no worries though, my temp is 80F and i can easily knock that down a few degrees if i want.

you could get a peiece of plexi glass and put it under the lights...and have a fan sucking hot air out...kinda like a seperate light chamber...thats what i use and my lights i can touch even after they have been on for 18 hours straight

dude all you need is a fan to blow over the lights and you can get those cfls as close as you want. they may run hot but cfls are Very easy to cool. i had a cpu fan blowing over like 3 of them and the bulb was almost cool to the touch.. peace.
