1st Microgrow

Well a few weeks ago I went out and bought all the supplies to create a rubbermaid grow box as per the directions in the Red Greenery thread. I was going to try a grow of the seeds I made this summer from a good strain I picked up from a friend. White Rhino (purple pheno) X Mysk (strong strain of unknown origin from a local very experienced grower). But at the last minute picked up some blueberry clones (so the man said, we'll find out soon enough)

So I have 2 blueberry clones and 1 seed popped from the other strain I mentioned. I'm going to sex it, and if its female its going to my friends grow room to be a mother. From which I will grow clones next time around.

This being my first time around growing indoors, I'm already having heat issues. I live in a building that is 80% senior, and its cold outside. So the heat in here never really drops below 20-25 degrees celcius (68-77F) and thats just the ambient air in the appartment, no light included. The temp inside the box the first time I checked at canopy level was 32C (89.6F). The leaves were nice and crispy after a whole night of that. Lowered them about 3 inches and the temp is 25-27C (77-80.6F).

I have 4 23 watt cfls in there (cool whites), walls coated with emergency blanket. 1 x 36 cfm fan (1:1 intake:outlet area) cools the lights which are seperated from the grow area by a pane of window glass (currently held in place with duct tape but will have rails at some point to secure it). A 36 cfm fan pulls air from the grow box through 2 x 4in diameter dryer hoses and the 1in of Activated carbon laying on a mesh screen (2:1 intake:outlet).

I will have pictures soon. And will continue updating as much as is necessary to follow progress. I plan to LST the plants and try my best to use organic ferts. But that will deprnd on prices at the time of purchase, I'm not rich these days.

Questions:
What kinds of temperatures should I be aiming at for both flower and veg? When I put the larger soft whites in at 4-6 x 42 watts, it will be a hell of a lot hotter in there.

Thanks

I think they say about 26C is ideal. I'm happy when mine is 28--and I've run it around 30, too. Some strains put up with it.

I'm also looking at heat issues. Air cooled light? Increase inputs and outputs plus another fan? That's about our only options, right?

good luck! looking forward to pics!

Thanks to all for the warm welcomes.

I have been reading the RedGreenaery thread, its a long read. A lot of really useful information in that thread, I plan on using all of it.

Well I had the afternoon off work so I thought I'd take a few quick pics of the current conditions of the grow.

So far, I have 2 clones of what I believe to be blueberry and 1 White Rhino (purple pheno) x Mysk from seeds I made this past summer. The other seed that cracked lost its shell when I sowed it, hopefully it will still come up. Time will tell.

The box is running at a canopy temperature of 26C (79F). I'm pretty happy with that, and so are the plants. The crispyness they developed after the first night at 32C (90F) has disappeared for the most part. New growth has restarted and things are going well so far.

My only concern at the moment is the carbon filter. Its air tight and pulling, but I'm just not sure if its going to be powerful enough to clear the space in the box at a fast enough rate that it doesn't smell, again, time will tell I guess. Its a 36cfm fan.

Looks great, can't wait to see your plants grow! You are like one step ahead of me. Just put my seeds in wet paper towel. Only one has taken so far.

good luck!

Exclamation Looks like magnesium deficiency is starting

You should add calcium and magnesium to your regular ferts if they do not contain them. You should do this every third time you fert with dolomite lime in your soil and everytime without dol. lime or when supplies run low. 1/4 teaspoon epsom salts + powdered gypsum per gallon of water along with the regular ferts. If the yellowing of leaves gets bad but the veins of leaf remain green, water with 1 teaspoon epsom salts per gallon of water. Adjust the ph of your fert water to about 6 for best results.

Anything that was wrong with the plants in the first pics is the sole responsibility of the man who made the clones, they were straight from him. the are looking nice now though, the lower leaves are alittle messed up, but the new growth is looking great.

Here are the plants today
