The extent of a drug dog's smelling ability?
Do you think a drug sniffing dog would pick up them smell of my grow (7 plankt, 1kw) from about 300 feet away?
If so, would a dog give an indication or lead a police to my door or do they only give a cue when asked to smell something/an area. I'm not sure if they're "always on duty" Finally, would that be legal ground in the USA for Police to begin looking around my property/around my house, to look for more indicaions to use to get a warrent? I'm aksing because I have become aware that a dog in he middle of training to be a drug sniffing dog has moved into a house not too far from mine. I'm worried he may walk near my house and start giving signals. |

I dont know about the USA ... but yes they are always on duty (because you cant turn an animal "off")
it has been trained to do that ... therefore it dosent know if its "on" or "off" thats no reason for it to lead police to your house though ....if they do turn up its probably because they got tipped off and turned up with the dog for a reason to enter...the dog smells something ...can we come in .... I hope your ok ... Peace

If it's always "on", wouldn't it detect something if it came near my house and give the "I smell something signal", leading police to my house or am I just paranoid?

thats what i think too. with my experience training dogs, the dog will sniff out the dope on command. ive been toking walking down the road and have the k9 unit pass or pull up to the light and the dog did nothing. that possibility is worth looking into further tho. as to what johnny law can and cannot do. Probable cause is a gray area that they love to use and its your word against his. Probable cause can get your house searched. We have no privacy in our homes an this country any more.

Im with Supermanlives.
My dog can scent game for an incredibly long distance, particularly if the game is upwind. I would be very careful,S.T. Which way is the prevailing wind in your area in relation to the new neighbor/dog? I dont know if there are leash laws where you live but if you see the dog in question on your property perhaps you could request the owner/handler po-po to keep the dog tied up at home. A "scares the kids, craps on my lawn,Im allergic, chases my cat" type of complaint might be all you need to keep the pooch as far away from your property as possible. |

the "i smell something " signal in this country is the dog sitting down ... so there would be little chance of it "leading" them anywhere ...and theyd probably assume it was tired from walking and take it home
Peace

So you mean don't exhaust to the exterior and make a nice carbon scrubber?? I don't have a CO2 system so I like to have a window open not too far from the growing area.
