another run with ak 47

Well, After my power nightmare at the beginning of the month that had chopping down the crop 3 to 4 weeks early, I decided to get another batch growing.. I got quite a few seeds from a previous grow that were all hermies, but due to my complete lack of knowledge, I et them grow until they seeded.

I will have to watch these babies for signs of being hermi, but right now it is still very exciting.

5 out of 8 have germinated here. I used the paper towel method inside an open ziploc bag. 2 Days from introduction to popping. These are about 3 days in. The room I was keeping the grow box in, was much too cold. I had to move them to another part of the house, my bedroom, lots of heat and a good 6 to 8 hours a night of Co2.

I ended up with 7 seedlings out of 8. I orginally constructed this box as a mother room, so I have had to improvise to get the plants closer the flos. I also have a small cfl(in the lamp). I am trying to see if the growth under a cfl would be better than the tubes. I suspect it will, but I need proof.

This is the baby under the cfl. it is probably just me but I think I can see a difference already. There are about 2 weeks in now, I lost a bit of growth due to the cold temps, but since they have been moved I get get noticeable daily growth.

These were the weakest of them all when I placed them upstairs. There is some leaf curling on the first leaves, I suspect the cold temps caused some minor tissue damage, but the plants seem fine now, new shoots show up frequently.

The nutes I am using for the grow. Sva/Sba and dutch nutrient formula

I am hoping to get 3 to 4 females from this, Three would be automatically flowered and 1 would stay as a mother plant. They are on a 24 cycle now, I will be waiting till the show pre flowers b4 I switch them.

I will be using a 400 w Warm MH for the flowering stage.

Howdy ECUG thanks for looking in, AK is my favorite as well, as my good friend has been growing it for a few years now, I have come to look at it as the standard that I base all other smoke on.

It has been about 3 days since I took these pics, and the growth has been great since, the single plant under the cfl is performing stellar with 8 sets of leaves and about 3 inches high.

I will take some new pics early next week as I will be on a short vacation and will have lots of time to be tending to them.

Check back next week

2nd Entry

Well it has been almost a week since I started this log, and I have quite a bit of growth.
My experiment with the cfl's is working so well I got too more 60 w cfl in 6 dollar desklamps, The difference is almost immediate. The plants I had under the tube flos were growing at a crawl with very skinny fan leaves. The one I had under the CFL is growing like a champ. Nearly 3 weeks from seed and it is working on its 8 th node. The other plants since being set under the CFLs are catching up.

I started with 1/4 strength nutes, And have fed them twice out of three waterings. They are going through water faster now, I have to water them every two days.

Here is the basic set up, what you don't see in this pic are the 4 flo tube lights I have installed on the roof of this box. I adjusted the ev compensation of a few of these pics to make the pics look better.

I was really getting worried about the thickness of the stems with this much foliage starting to grow but they are starting to thicken up nicely.

The heat stays around 20 to 25 c so all I need is that small fan to move air around. I will be bringing the 400 mh in here soon so I have my intake and exhaust fans ready to go.

Once I get my mother(s) I can change the set up a bit I was going to have about 1ft to 1.5 ft of the bottom a cloning chamber, as the heat from the register in the floor to the right will keep the roots warm.

Here is my star!!!. I really hope this one becomes MOM. I was so impressed with her growth. "HER" stem is twice as thick as the others.

The color here is due to the lights in the room but this plant is quickly catching the #1 plant

I will be back with more pics as I see something to report. I can tell you I am very impressed with what is happening so far. I cannot wait to see how this strain does outdoors this summer.
